Chapter 10 Understanding the Law
They found a restaurant near the company, and the two of them chose a window–side table.[]
“What do you want to eat?” Sean asked as he pulled out a chair and sat down, glancing at Eva, who was sitting across from him.[]

“I’ll take a look,” Eva picked up the menu from the table and flipped through it, then called the waiter over.
Sean was a bit surprised. She had brought the property deed to him, which meant she was desperate and helpless, probably having this meal just to accommodate his time. But watching her order now, she seemed to be enjoying the food, even going so far as to tell the waiter she didn’t want cilantro.
“Your turn to order,” Eva ordered a set meal and then handed the menu to Sean.[]
“Just the same as hers,” Sean didn’t take the menu, instead, he gave a slight smile and raised his eyes to look at the waiter.]
The waiter nodded and left.[]
Eva quietly put the menu down again. When she looked back at Sean, she spoke seriously this time, “What have you decided?“]]
She was asking about the divorce agreement.[]
“What do you think I’ve decided?” Sean smiled, turning his head to look at her. His gaze was a little deeper, and after a pause, he continued, almost correcting his previous response, “Do you think I’d consider those terms?”
“No,” Eva shook her head, showing some self–awareness.
She handed him the property deed and looked at him again, “I thought about it, and I realize the terms on the divorce agreement were a bit excessive. If I still had some dignity, I shouldn’t have made such a request, but now…” Eva smiled, a bitter and resigned smile, “Now isn’t it the time when dignity is the least valuable?”
“But I’m not taking advantage of you. I’ll put the house up as collateral, and I’ll write an IOU.“]]
As she spoke, Eva moved the property deed closer to him.[]
Sean didn’t take it. He looked at her calmly, waiting for her to continue.[]
Meeting his gaze, Eva swallowed hard and took a deep breath, then added the last sentence, “Can you help me first?”
Sean looked at Eva and could see the determined resolve in her eyes when she said the last line.]
“Are you asking me for help?” Sean spoke, his gaze fixed on the property deed she had raised.[]
Actually, she wasn’t really asking for his help. Eva was trying to negotiate an exchange.
“If I give you the property deed, and you give me the IOU, then sign the divorce papers–won’t you be at a disadvantage?“]
Sean took the deed and placed it on the table next to him.
“Not at all,” Eva shook her head. “Anyone willing to help me in a pinch right now, I’ll be grateful.“[]
“If you’re not taking advantage of me, then I can’t take advantage of you either,” Sean smiled. “I’ll take the property deed, discuss it with my parents. I can’t make any decisions on how much I can give you. Once I’ve spoken to them, we’ll write the IOU.”
Lva’s face darkened a little, but she still nodded.

If it had to go through Sean’s parents, this was probably going to be difficult []
Sean pulled a card out of his pocket and pushed it toward Eva.
“The money from the company belongs to my parents. I can’t make any decisions since I just came back. But this,” he said, pointing at the card, “is from my income over the past three years.“[]
Eva looked at him, somewhat surprised.]
Sean, with an indifferent shrug, smiled. “Not that we’re divorced yet.“]]
He tapped the bank card with his finger, pushing it closer to her, then said. “This is marital property,” and pointed at the property deed on his side, “This is the one your grandfather gave you before marriage. I know the law
