Chapter 30: People Grow
This time, Sean kept his word.[]
In the evening, Eva saw him return, and indeed, he had bought a large bag of ingredients.
“Feeling better today?” Sean asked as he walked through the door, smiling at her in a natural, relaxed way, as if they’d been living together for a long time.[]
“Much better, I can go back to work tomorrow,”

He walked past her and into the kitchen with the groceries.[]
Eva looked at her empty hand, taking a deep breath before she nonchalantly returned to the sofa.[]
Sean put the items away in the kitchen, placing the ingredients he would use for dinner on the counter before turning to glance toward the kitchen door. He sighed and walked to the door, poking his head out. “Eva.“]
Upon hearing him, Eva walked to the kitchen.]
“Want to help?” Sean asked, glancing at her. He had noticed her desire to help when she came in earlier.
“You said, once I’m better, I could help,” Eva stepped into the kitchen, looking at the ingredients on the counter. She turned to him, tilting her head and asking, “What do you need me to do?“]
“Can you wash and chop?” Sean asked.[]
Eva hesitated, then nodded.[]
Sean couldn’t help but laugh lightly, “I’m seeing someone hesitate over such a simple question for the first time.“]
it was a simple question; the answer should be straightforward–either yes or no
“Seen it done plenty of times,” Eva replied honestly, meeting his gaze.
“Did you watch your housekeeper do it?” Sean asked with a smile.[]
“No, I watched my grandfather do it,” she answered.]
“Ah..” Sean nodded, and this answer seemed to signal the end of the topic.
When Eva was young, when her grandfather was busy, he would have a housekeeper cook. But when he had time, he would make meals for her himself. Eva had always preferred her grandfather’s cooking.
No matter how much she changed with age, Eva’s dependence on her grandfather never faded. As a child, whenever her grandfather made food, she would run around the kitchen, playing on her own. As she grew older, she no longer ran around immaturely, but she still liked to hang around, reading a book or fiddling with her phone.[]
Being in the same space, especially in the kitchen, symbolized a sense of togetherness, the feeling of sharing a meal, and Eva liked that feeling
“Go ahead and wash them,” Sean gestured with his chin, indicating she should help.

Eva nodded, turned on the water, and began washing the ingredients Sean had placed on the counter.[]
“Wash everything?” she asked.[]
“Mm, how you wash them, just go by instinct,” Sean smiled, taking a few steps back to watch her.[]

There was an innocent, stubborn feeling about her–she looked like someone who didn’t quite know how to do it, but she wouldn’t ask

Sean took a few steps forward, walked beside her, and turned off the water.[]
“If you can’t even take care of yourself, do you plan on having your grandfather take care of the baby?” he asked.[]
Eva stared at him for several seconds, then lowered her gaze and avoided his eyes.
“Once it reaches a certain point, a person will learn to grow on their own. My grandfather never taught me how to do business, but now I have to learn.“[]
