But there was nothing he could do. After all, Ashley couldn’t sleep with the slightest noise.
Skylar was so understanding; she would surely forgive him.
Thinking this, Blake woke up early and made Skylar a warm, nourishing tonic.
Skylar loved sweets. If she drank this, she definitely wouldn’t be angry anymore.
But when he reached the cow shed, he found it empty.
On the ground lay only a lonely divorce application!
Blake stared at the thin piece of paper on the kitchen counter, his first reaction being absurdity.
Then, an inexplicable panic set in.
It wasn’t just a regular letter. The header was stamped with bold, red lettering, and beneath it, the official seal of the Family Services Office.
<
He’d neglected her for barely a month. Did she really have to go this far? To drag this to the Family Services Office?
Blake’s face darkened, his chest tightening with a suffocating feeling.
Liam.
Yes, it had to be Liam.
The day she gave birth, he’d felt something strange, unspoken, between them.
Why would a grown man, out of the blue, be so kind as to bring food to a stranger who had just given birth?
They had been hooking up all along!
This realization hit him like a bucket of ice water, drenching him from head to toe and instantly extinguishing the last flicker of guilt he held.
Panic transformed into the fury of betrayal.
Blake spun around and stormed out of the house, heading towards town.
Arriving at the town’s general store, Blake immediately spotted the figure.
‘Liam, dressed in a crisp white shirt, stood tall and refined.
Blake took three long strides, lunged forward, grabbed Liam’s collar, and slammed him against the wall.
“Where is Skylar? Where did she go?” Blake snarled through clenched teeth, his eyes bloodshot.
Liam was momentarily stunned by the sudden attack. He frowned, then forcefully shook off Blake’s hand.
“Let go!” His voice was cool and firm, brooking no argument.
Blake stumbled back, but immediately lunged forward again, a twisted sneer on his face.
“It’s you, you pretty boy! Where have you hidden Skylar?“!
Liam straightened his wrinkled collar, his gaze icy as he looked at Blake. “Skylar has already filed for divorce from you. Where she goes is none of your business.”
That sentence completely ignited Blake’s rage.
“Divorce?” He laughed as if he’d heard the biggest joke. “So it was because of you! You lured Skylar away, didn’t you?”
He looked Liam up and
down.
“You’d actually take used goods who’s already had a kid? Liam, you’re really not picky!”
The moment the words left his mouth, the surrounding air seemed to freeze.
The calm in Liam’s eyes shattered completely, replaced by towering fury.
He suddenly raised his hand and landed a heavy punch squarely on Blake’s face.
“Say that again?”
“Stop it!”
A clear, sharp cry cut through the chaos.
I stood behind Blake, holding my child.
He clutched his stinging cheek and turned around. When he saw me, his face went blank for a moment, then flooded with guilt and embarrassment.
“Skylar, what are you doing here?”
Ha Instinctively reached out to pull me closer, his eyes darting away as he began to weave a lie,
“… I didn’t mean it that way just now. Don’t misunderstand,
He paused, then seemed to feel his posture was too submissive. He immediately atraightened his back, adopting a self–righteous expression.
“Besides, who said anything about divorcing you? A woman like you, just walking off with a child and some man into town, what kind of impression does that give? What about our family’s reputation?”
I looked at him quietly, not saying a word.
“Used goods.”
The words were like poisoned Ice picks, piercing my ears, but there was no expected pain, only a bone–deep numbness.
So, in his heart, I, who had borne his child, was nothing more than cheap merchandise.
I didn’t even bother to refute his words.
When someone’s contempt for you has seeped into their very bones, any explanation becomes pale and ridiculous.
My arms, holding the baby, tightened. The small, warm body in my embrace was my only anchor.
