“Congratulations.” Oliver said quietly.
I smiled and held up my divorce certificate: “Same to you.”
Walking out of the courthouse, I took a deep breath – I felt like a completely new person.
“Oliver, maybe we can get together?” I suddenly blurted out.[]
Oliver stopped mid–step.
“I mean, we’re both in the same boat. That’s gotta be fate or something.“]
I watched his ears gradually turn red and felt gleeful inside.[]
Just kidding – you didn’t actually take that seriously, did you?” I laughed.[]
Oliver glanced at me but didn’t say anything.
Something about his expression seemed off though.[]
“Come on, let me buy you dinner. To celebrate our freedom.“]
I quickly changed the subject
Oliver nodded and silently opened the car door for me.

We found a quiet restaurant and sat across from each other.
“Seriously though, thank you for all your help.” I raised my glass.[]
Oliver shook his head: “We were on the same side anyway.“]
“Yeah, a couple of betrayed losers.” I laughed.[]
Oliver frowned: “Don’t talk about yourself like that.“[]
“Fine, how about we’re warriors rising from the ashes?” I shrugged.]
Oliver actually cracked a rare smile.
I suddenly realized he was actually pretty handsome when he smiled.[]
Sunlight streamed through the window onto his profile, softening that usually stern face.[]
“What are you looking at?” Oliver asked.]
“Just thinking you look really handsome when you smile,” I said honestly.

This discovery made me ridiculously happy.
After dinner, Oliver insisted on driving me back to the hotel.[]
The car stopped at the hotel entrance. I unbuckled my seatbelt and suddenly said:[]

I’d almost ruined our friendship with one stupid joke.
Until a month later, when I showed up at a house I’d been eyeing and found him there.
He was standing on the balcony with his back to me, sunlight outlining his tall figure.[]
“Nice place.”
He didn’t turn around, but somehow knew it was me.

“Thinking of buying it?”
“Yep, can’t live in a hotel forever.” I smiled.[]
He turned to look at me: “Want my opinion?“]
“Sure, you know more about this stuff than I do.” I nodded.[]
He walked me through every detail of the house.[]
From the renovation to the orientation, from lighting to ventilation – he analyzed everything thoroughly.[]
“This place is meant for a family,” he finally said.[]
