Chapter 9
After Matteo drove Joannie home and watched her get out of the car, his heart suddenly ached sharply.[]
The car door was suddenly pulled open again, and Joannie looked at him pitifully.[]
“Are you… really going to send me away?“[]
Matteo immediately became serious: “Wasn’t I clear enough? Yunia is the only one in my heart.“[]
“But you clearly said before…“[]
“That was before! I absolutely cannot lose Yunia!”
Getting no response, Joannie immediately burst into tears.]
But Matteo showed no signs of softening. He didn’t even look at her again, directly pulling the car door shut and starting the engine.[]
Still worried about Yunia, he called his assistant to ask where she was now.
The assistant quickly sent him the address of another hospital. Looking at the text on the screen, he felt his temples throbbing.
Could she… know? Impossible![]
Belated guilt surged like a rising tide, flooding his heart. The image of Yunia curled up in a pool of blood made him deeply uneasy.[]
The car screeched to a halt in front of the hospital with a harsh sound.[]
Matteo loosened his tie and strode forward, catching sight of a timid little girl by the flower bed from the corner of his eye.
The little girl was young, holding a large bucket of bright sunflowers that bloomed vibrantly even in the evening.
“Sir, would you like to buy flowers?” the little girl asked in a clear, childlike voice.[]
Matteo suddenly remembered that Yunia loved sunflowers because she thought they looked like little suns. So he pulled out several bills from his wallet and handed them over: “I’ll take them all. Please wrap them up.”
Moments later, Matteo walked toward the elevator carrying the heavy bouquet.[]
Reaching the hospital room door, he found it slightly ajar. The moment he pushed it open, the smell of disinfectant hit him.
Matteo instinctively straightened his back, but froze in place the instant he opened the door.
The room was empty, and the bed had been neatly made.
“Where is the patient who was staying here?”
He grabbed a passing nurse and asked urgently.
“Who are you?” The nurse looked at him suspiciously.
“I’m a family member of the patient,” he said instinctively.
Chapter V
“Family member? With such serious injuries, the family let the patient transfer hospitals by herself? Really not worried at all. Fortunately, the patient recovered well.“]
“Where is she now?“]
“She should have gone to the restroom…“[]
Before the nurse finished speaking, Matteo had already rushed toward the end of the corridor.[]
Cold white lights flashed overhead as he heard his own rapid breathing.
But Matteo searched the entire hospital and found no trace of her.[]
A strong sense of unease filled his heart.
If she wasn’t at the hospital, where else could she be?
He immediately called his assistant and had him investigate.
Soon, the assistant called back: “CEO Jackson, surveillance shows Ms. Yunia left the hospital room on her own earlier, but we don’t know where she went.“]
Matteo stared at the gradually darkening twilight outside the window, a metallic taste rising in his throat: “Find her immediately! If you can’t find her, don’t bother coming back!“]
In the glass reflection, his shadow was stretched long by the setting sun, his tone carrying undeniable authority.
