Chapter 23
Matteo was preparing to find a place to stay temporarily. Although he had been rejected, he was unwilling to give up.
He couldn’t believe that Yunia would fall in love with someone else in such a short time.[]
In other words, he couldn’t accept that she didn’t love him.[]
His phone rang again, and his assistant’s panicked voice came through: “CEO Jackson! Miss Joannie says she’s pregnant with your child and is now sitting on the edge of the rooftop…”
Matteo couldn’t help but frown: “Ignore her. Tell me when she’s dead!“]
He was about to hang up impatiently.[]
The assistant hurriedly said: “CEO Jackson, the board demands you return immediately! Miss Joannie has a pregnancy test report, and public opinion might explode again…“[]
Matteo looked at the rolling dark clouds, his nails digging deep into his palms.]
“Fine, I’ll go back. Tell her to wait.”
Joannie’s pale face and Yunia’s cold smile alternated in his vision.[]
He eventually boarded the plane back to America. The circulating cold air in the cabin, mixed with the metallic smell of blood, reminded him of the dagger Joannie had thrust toward his chest.]
After landing, he headed straight to the company building. The sound of sirens and the commotion of onlookers reached him from afar.
Joannie’s figure hung precariously on the edge of the rooftop, swaying as if she might fall at any moment.
“Matteo!”
When she turned around, her face showed a sickly flush, and she looked like she had lost a lot of weight: “You finally came. I knew you couldn’t forget me…“]
Matteo frowned and strode over to Joannie, saying coldly: “Name your price.“]]
“You think I want money? Hahahaha!“[]
Joannie swayed her body, her high heels already half suspended in air: “I want to get married! Like you promised me, at Sacred Heart Cathedral…”
She suddenly coughed violently, dark red blood seeping through her fingers: “Otherwise, I’ll jump from here with your biological child.“]
The crowd below gasped, voices of dissuasion rising one after another.[]
Matteo stared at that face twisted with madness, suddenly remembering Joannie’s innocent appearance when they first met []
Back then, he never would have imagined that this girl who said “I’m content just watching you from afar” would now use two lives as bargaining chips

He immediately felt some regret for bringing Joannie back.[]
“I’ll give you ten minutes. If you don’t come down after ten minutes, I’ll show you what happens when you threaten me.“[]
Joannie’s nails dug deep into her palms. Looking at the disgust rolling in Matteo’s eyes, she suddenly remembered the first time she saw him, when he had scanned the crowd with the same casual indifference.]
“You really don’t care about your child’s life or death?” Her voice carried a sob, but stopped abruptly when she met his cold smile.
“Every year, quite a few women block the company entrance claiming they’re pregnant with my child.”
Matteo loosened his tie, the metal clip hitting the ground with a crisp sound: “If you count them all, my illegitimate children could form a soccer team.“]
The crowd erupted in suppressed laughter, whispers flowing like a tide:]
“I told you, this kind of woman would do anything for money. How terrifying.“[]
“She must be money–crazy to think of such a method. Absolutely shameless!”
The abuse made Joannie step back half a step, her high heels slipping on the rooftop edge.
She stared at that familiar yet strange face, suddenly remembering that rainy night when Matteo had looked at her with the same eyes as he had her dragged away.
A dull pain came from her lower abdomen. She touched her flat stomach. The so–called pregnancy was actually just a fake report used as her last bargaining chip
Matteo had cost her a finger, so she would make him pay a price too.
Even if it meant using her own life.
“CEO Jackson, the Australian cooperation team’s negotiation group will arrive in half an hour. This is a hard–fought opportunity. If they see this scene, the cooperation might be delayed again.“]
