The lawyer’s message came back quickly: [Of course, Ms. Skylar. I’ll get the papers drafted ASAP.]

Elizabeth put her phone away and stared out the window at the passing scenery.[

The amnesia was a gift from heavena chance to completely escape and start fresh.

Don’t go home yet,she suddenly told the driver. Take me to the immigration office.]]

The driver clearly froze, glancing at her through the rearview mirror with surprise, but he still replied respectfully, Of course, ma’am

The paperwork at the immigration office went smoothly

The officer told her all her documents would be ready in two weeks

Getting back in the car, Elizabeth hesitated for a moment before speaking up: Don’t tell my husband about today.[

The driver’s grip tightened on the steering wheel. Ma’am, Mr. Whitmore has alwaysforbidden us from mentioning you in front of him.”

Elizabeth’s mouth twisted into a bitter smile.

So Sebastian despised her to the point where he didn’t even want to hear her name

Back at the mansion, Elizabeth stood in the foyer, taking in her surroundings. This home felt both familiar and foreign.[

Familiar because every detail matched her taste. Foreign because it felt cold and empty, like no one had ever really lived here

She gently touched the embroidered throw pillows on the sofa, thinking that when she’d first decorated this place, she must have been so excited about the happy life she’d imagined with Sebastian.

On the wall hung their wedding photo. In it, she gazed at Sebastian with pure love in her eyes, while his handsome face showed nothing but cold indifference.

Elizabeth shook her head and headed upstairs.[]

Walking into the bedroom, she instinctively pulled open a drawer, and a leather diary tumbled to the floor

Opening to the first page, the shaky handwriting looked like it had been written while drunk:

[Today is the first day of my marriage to Sebastian. He didn’t say a word to me before going to his study. It’s okay, I’ll wait.]

As she flipped through the pages, each entry was like a knife stabbing into her heart:[

13th suicide attempt. He still didn’t come see me. His assistant said Clarissa had a fever, so he stayed by her bedside all night. I lay in the ER, counting the IV drips until dawn.

[89th time. I overdosed on sleeping pills. When I woke up, I heard him on the phone in the hallway saying let her die. That’s when I realized that there’s something more painful than deathhearing the person you love most wishing you were dead.][

[108th time. I’m giving up. If this doesn’t work either, I’ll just disappear completely. No one in this world cares if I exist anyway.][

Elizabeth slammed the diary shut, her chest feeling like it had been rinned abou

each one silently accusing her of past desperation.

She slowly crouched down, wrapping her arms around her knees

So this was how she’d lived for three yearspathetic, like a dog begging for scraps, all for just one look from him.[

It’s okay,Elizabeth wiped away her tears and put the diary back in the drawer. Elizabeth, it’s okay that no one loves you.[

The moonlight streamed through the window, casting a small patch of light at her feet.

As long as you learn to love yourself, you haven’t lost.[

Elizabeth spent several days in the empty mansion, and Sebastian never came home.[

Without memories or love, she didn’t find it hard to stay alone in the house. In fact, she thought it would be nice to wait quietly like this until her immigration papers were ready.[

Until her mother’s phone call shattered the peace.
