Chapter 4
Elizabeth had just finished touching up her lipstick when she froze at the corner of the hallway.
Not far away, Sebastian was pressing Clarissa against the wall, kissing her deeply.[]
His long fingers tangled in her hair while his other hand gripped her waist tightly, as if he wanted to absorb her into his very bones. Clarissa tilted her head back, her pale neck forming a graceful arc.[]
After what felt like forever, Sebastian finally released her, his thumb gently rubbing her swollen lips, his voice husky: “Happy now?“[|]
Clarissa leaned into his embrace, her voice soft and sweet: “do you think I’m being too much? I already accepted your family heirloom, but then I asked for a kiss t too… If Elizabeth saw this, she’d probably be heartbroken again.“]]
“I just hurt so much. If that accident hadn’t happened all those years ago, we should have been together…“]

Sebastian’s eyes remained calm as he pulled her closer: “Her feelings have nothing to do with me.

“I never liked her, and I never will.“]]
“I’ve always loved you, Clarissa.“[
With that, he leaned down and kissed her again.
Elizabeth stood frozen, her heart feeling like it was being crushed by an invisible hand, the pain making it hard to breathe.[]
She pressed her hand to her chest, thinking: This must be the leftover warmth from loving him in the past.[]
Once this warmth faded, there would be nothing left.[]
Sebastian and Clarissa kissed for a full three ininutes before turning to leave.[]
Only after their figures completely disappeared did Elizabeth emerge from the shadows.]]
She took a deep breath, smoothed her dress, and headed back to the ballroom to grab her purse and leave.
But the moment she entered the hall, Clarissa rushed over and grabbed her wrist: “Elizabeth, if you liked the ring Sebastian gave me, I could have just given it to you. Why did you have to steal it?“[]
Elizabeth blinked in confusion. “What theft? What are you talking about?“]
“Stop pretending!” Clarissa’s eyes were red with tears. “I only went to the bathroom once, and the ring disappeared! The waiters said you were the only one who went near my purse!“[]
Connor and Delilah rushed over at the commotion, and without a word, Delilah slapped Elizabeth hard across the face: “Elizabeth, can’t you go one day without causing trouble?!”
Elizabeth’s cheek burned, and before she could react, Delilah was already shrieking: “Someone search her! Now!“}]
Several waiters immediately surrounded her, roughly grabbing at her dress.[]
Elizabeth struggled desperately: “I didn’t steal anything! Let go of me!“[]

Chapter 4
“Rip-”
The sound of tearing fabric filled the air as Elizabeth’s shoulder was exposed, immediately drawing gasps and snickers from the
crowd.
“Found it!” A waiter pulled the jade ring from her purse. “It was on her, just like we thought!“]
Clarissa took the ring, tears streaming down her face: “Elizabeth, what do you have to say now?“|]
Elizabeth’s whole body trembled as she was about to speak, when suddenly the crowd parted-[]
Heavy footsteps approached from across the room. She looked up to see Sebastian walking toward her, his polished shoes clicking against the marble floor, each step feeling like it was crushing her heart.[]
“Why steal it?” His voice was quiet, but it silenced the entire ballroom. “I never saw you as my wife. Didn’t you get that?“]]
Elizabeth looked up, meeting his ice–cold gaze.[]
“Elizabeth, some things don’t belong to you,” his thin lips barely moved, each word like a poisoned blade, “and they never will.“[]
Elizabeth suddenly laughed.[]
That smile made Sebastian’s brow furrow almost imperceptibly.[]
He’d seen her cry, seen her throw tantrums, seen her break down completely, but he’d never seen her smile like this–like she was liberated, or maybe mocking him.[]
“I didn’t steal it.”
Her voice was soft, but every word was crystal clear. The ballroom’s chandeliers cast scattered light in her eyes, like tears, or maybe
stars.
“And-”
She took a deep breath and said, word by word:[]
“I don’t love you anymore!“]
