Chapter 98
“Hurry up! If you don’t give us money, don’t blame us for getting violent!” Dad threatened.
Leaning coldly against the wall, I looked at them and spoke flatly.
“I’m not even your biological daughter anymore–why should I give you money? If you want money, go ask your real daughter.“>
As soon as the words left my mouth, Valeraine, holding her pregnant belly in a dramatic pose, put on a pitiful face.}
“Sissy, you’ve taken my parents and family for over forty years. I’ve been lonely for so many years. Don’t you feel the slightest guilt?” “Guilt?” Wednesday exploded in fury.
She snatched the DNA report and smacked it right into Valeraine’s face.
“You stole Zadie’s husband, pretended to be her just to freeload off the family, and now you still have the nerve to act like the victim? You’ve really got no shame!“}
At that, Killian’s eyes flashed with panic.
He rushed to tear up the report that had fallen to the floor. But my younger brother was faster. He picked it up and scanned the results. He wasn’t stupid. In an instant, he pieced everything together.”
“Killian! You think I’m an idiot? You actually tried to fool me? That DNA report you gave me–was it fake?“>
Killian kept struggling to deny it.”
“No, it was Zadie! She’s the one who lied! Don’t believe her!”
Flora snapped back, “We just ran a fresh test. If you don’t believe us, we can ask the doctor ourselves!“}]
“What if you bribed the doctor? I think…” he muttered, trying to twist things.
But his excuse was cut short by a solid punch from Holvard.
“Still trying to talk your way out of it? You dare make a fool out of me? I’ll beat you to death!“}
Mom, Dad, Grandpa, and Grandma all realized they’d been lied to and quickly joined in.”
Valeraine, sensing danger, tried to make a rún for it–but Grandma yanked her back by the hair and started slapping her hard across the face.
“You little bitch! Still trying to run? If it weren’t for you, we wouldn’t have turned against our own granddaughter!“}
Her nails scratched across Valeraine’s face without mercy.”
It was all just like the way they once went after me–relentlessly–when they believed I wasn’t biologically related to them.}
I calmly watched the chaos unfold, then spoke up at just the right time.
“Whoever helps me deal with these two scumbags gets their privileges to my account reactivated first.“@
That one sentence sent them into a frenzy.
Mom shoved Grandma aside, and lunged at Valeraine’s face with her nails. While clawing away, she called back to me, “Sweetheart, look how hard I’m trying! Bring my access back first, okay?“}
Not to be outdone, Halvard kicked Mom out of the way and aimed a vicious kick at Valeraine’s belly.
“Didn’t you say you love kids, Zadie? Let me help you get rid of one!“}
As for Killian, Grandpa and Dad weren’t about to hold back either.
He ended up curled in a ball on the floor, nose bleeding, beaten half–unconscious.
Some passersby noticed the commotion. Killian, thinking he had a chance at rescue, cried out, “Help! They’re beating me up! Somebody help me!“}
How familiar this scene was.}
Wasn’t this exactly what I looked like back then–being beaten while no one helped?}
I raised my voice and wailed dramatically.@
“Oh god, my husband cheated on me, and my family’s helping me teach him a lesson! Can’t blame them–it’s that jerk’s fault for being trash!”
The moment they heard “cheating” and “jerk,” the passersby walked away in disgust, even spitting as they left.”
My family, thinking the punishment wasn’t enough, dragged the two back inside for a fresh round of beatings.
Only after they were thoroughly exhausted did they finally stop.
After it was over, they all looked at me eagerly.
“Zadie,” Mom said, “we’ve done all we could for you. So… who are you opening your account for first?“&
“Yeah, who gets it first?” Grandma asked excitedly.
I frowned, pretending to consider it, letting my finger hover over each of them. Each time I paused, the person beneath my finger would tremble in excitement.
But in the end, I slowly pulled my hand back and answered regretfully.
