Chapter 5
The surrounding guests whispered among themselves, their eyes darting between Jessica and Olivin.
“Oh my God, this is the first time I’ve seen someone who got hit apologize to the one who hit them…”
“Mr. Reed really spoils Miss Grant, doesn’t he?”
“That marriage is clearly just for show. Anyone can see that.”
Jessica stood at the center of the crowd, her nails digging deep into her palms, feeling no pain.
Olivia raised her chin proudly. “I accept your apology.”
She pretended to be magnanimous, linking her arm with Jessica’s. “Since the professor is here, join our fun.”
Before Jessica could refuse, Olivia’s friend had already brought out a box for drawing lots. “Let’s play a game! Everyone draws a number, and whoever gets number 6 faces a penalty!”
In the first round, Jessica expressionlessly opened her slip of paper-
Number 6.
“Wow! It’s Professor Reid!” A girl in a pink dress dramatically covered her mouth. “The penalty is eating three tubes of wasabi!”
Jessica accepted without expression, swallowing it spoonful by spoonful.
The spicy taste instantly rushed up her nose, tears streaming down involuntarily as her stomach cramped like it was on fire.
Laughter erupted around her.
“Wow, Professor is amazing!”
“Let’s go again!”
In the second round, she drew number 6 again.
“This time you have to bark like a dog three times~” the girl in pink said with a smile.
Jessica’s face instantly turned pale.
“That’s too much,” her voice trembled. “Choose something else.”
“You have to accept the consequences, Professor,” Olivia blinked innocently. “Games have rules.”
Maxwell walked over, lightly placing his arm around her shoulders. “Jessica, don’t be a killjoy. It’s just a game. Don’t ruin Olivia’s happy birthday.”
Jessica looked at his handsome face so close to hers, her heart feeling as if it was being torn apart.
“Woof…”
The first sound was practically squeezed through her teeth.
“Woof… woof…“.
Each sound was like a knife, cutting away at her dignity piece by piece.

Chapter 5
Whispers and suppressed laughter surrounded her.
Jessica bit her lip hard until she tasted blood,
The third round, unsurprisingly, was her again.
“This time, drink all the alcohol on the table~”
A whole row of strong liquor was set before her, and Jessica’s stomach was already cramping.
“I can’t drink this much,” her voice was hoarse.
“Don’t be like that, Professor,” Olivia’s friends urged. “You played along earlier. Backing out now would spoil the fun!”
Maxwell sat beside Olivia, carefully peeling a grape for her. Hearing this, he looked up: “Jessica, don’t be difficult.”
Jessica picked up the glass and downed one after another.
The alcohol burned her throat, her stomach feeling like it was being twisted by knives.
By the eighth glass, she finally couldn’t take it anymore and vomited blood.
“Ugh-”
The bright red blood splattered on the pristine tablecloth, a shocking sight.
“I’m… leaving.” she staggered to her feet, her vision blurring.
“Don’t go,” Olivia frowned. “We’re just getting to the fun part.”
Jessica broke free from the hand holding her, stumbling away.
The sea breeze on deck was bone–chillingly cold. She leaned against the railing, gasping for breath.
The pain in her stomach made her double over, coughing up more blood.
Her vision darkened, and she accidentally hit the railing, flipping overboard.
“Splash!”
The cold seawater instantly engulfed her.
Jessica couldn’t swim. The salty water rushed into her mouth and nose, the sensation of suffocation overwhelming her.
She struggled desperately in the water, vaguely seeing figures moving on the deck.
“Help… me…”
She saw Maxwell rush to the railing, about to jump down, when someone shouted: “Mr. Reed! Olivia ate something she’s allergic to
and fainted!”
Maxwell froze.
The next second, he turned and left.
In Jessica’s final moments of consciousness, she watched Maxwell hurriedly carrying Olivia away.
As seawater filled her lungs, darkness completely engulfed her.
