Chapter 14
From the very beginning, Olivia had lied to him, deliberately making him torment Jessica!
If she lied once, she would lie a second time, a third time, countless times. Perhaps not a single truth had ever passed her lips!
The fury of being deceived instantly overwhelmed him. Maxwell bit his tongue hard, masochistically savoring the taste of blood, forcing himself to stay lucid.
“Did you discover anything else? What else has Olivia done to Jessica? What else has she lied to me about?!” he demanded.
Hearing his furious tone, the assistant instinctively flinched before quickly composing himself and reporting diligently:
“I also found a recording made by one of Miss Grant’s classmates in the bathroom, capturing her conversation with Mrs. Reed. You should understand everything once you hear it.”
The recording was promptly sent to Maxwell.
He pressed play, and Olivia’s smug voice emanated from the phone:
“A man of his status has women throwing themselves at him left and right. I need to keep him on the hook–hot one minute, cold the next. That’s how I’ll keep him wrapped around my finger.”
“I don’t want to be his mistress. I want to be Mrs. Reed.”
The sound of Olivia slapping herself was unmistakably clear on the recording, as if the slap had landed on Maxwell’s own face.
His mind went completely blank
After a long while, he could only let out a bitter laugh.
“I really am a complete idiot, to be played like a puppet by such a woman!”
Maxwell punished himself with a vicious slap across his own face.
Almost instantly, his cheek swelled, blood seeping from the corner of his mouth.
Yet he seemed not to feel it at all, staring at Jessica’s photograph while apologizing over and over:
“Jessica, I’m sorry. It’s all my fault. I misunderstood you so many times, punished you so many times. I’m sorry, I’m so sorry…”
“I truly know I was wrong. I regret everything. Please come back? I’ll make up for every injustice you suffered. I don’t want Olivia anymore, I don’t want anything–1 just want you to come back!”
Maxwell’s eyes were bloodshot, his voice hoarse with emotion, his entire being radiating fragility and desolation.
At that moment, Olivia continued sending messages, still oblivious to his discovery.
He couldn’t be bothered to read her meaningless words, replying with only one message:
Come to my house. I have a surprise for you]
Upon receiving this, Olivia was completely blinded by excitement, not even noticing the strange tone of his message.
Her lips curled upward uncontrollably, and she even jumped with joy before forcing herself to respond with a composed “okay”

Afterward, ignoring her roommates‘ complex expressions, she hummed a tune while searching through her closet for suitable clothes.
Maxwell must be inviting her to his home to propose! te must be preparing to make her his fiancée!
Jessica hail divorced him, and he had been busy these past few days not responding to her messages–surely he was meticulously preparing his proposal.
Choosing his home for this special moment likely meant he wanted her to be the future hostess of the house!
Olivia spent hours selecting her outfit with painstaking care, ensuring every detail was perfect. She even sprayed Maxwell’s favorite perfume before stepping into the Rolls–Royce that had come to collect her.
Throughout the journey, Olivia didn’t detect anything unusual.
Looking at the mansion that occupied half a mountainside, she nodded approvingly, already planning how she would redecorate the place.
Not a single item Jessica had chosen would remain.
The car had barely entered the mansion gates when there was a loud clang–the large iron gates locked behind them, seemingly
electrified.
The entire estate was eerily quiet, with an inexplicably murderous atmosphere.
Olivia felt something wasn’t right, but convinced herself this was all part of Maxwell’s surprise. Nothing to worry about.
