Kieran’s eyes were bloodshot, fiercer than I’d ever seen him.
He screamed at Jade:
“You said you were going to a job interview! One fucking hour and you’re already with some random asshole…”

But seeing the open car door and Jade’s disheveled dress, I understood immediately.

On impulse, I had the driver stop. I leaned against the car window, watching the show with interest.

The whole time, Jade didn’t give Kieran a single glance. She was practically glued to the rich man.
Without hesitation, the suited man put his arm around Jade’s waist and got in the car.
Before leaving, he punched Kieran hard in the chest and warned viciously:
“Kid, don’t push your luck. Next time I see you, I’ll break your fucking arm. That’s a promise.”
Kieran tried to say something, but seeing the row of bodyguards behind the man, he awkwardly stopped.
The luxury car sped away.
Kieran stood there pathetically, cursing “bitch” at the disappearing car.
Then he seemed to remember something. He pulled out his phone, fingers flying.
The next second, I got a text:
[Jade and I are completely over.]
[School’s starting soon. Let’s stop fighting.]
[Are you home? I’ll come find you, help you buy stuff.]
I didn’t reply.

Looking up, I met Kieran’s confused gaze directly.

I’d just put down my phone when the door opened.
Thinking it was Dad coming back from grocery shopping, I immediately got up with a smile.
When I saw it was Kieran, my smile vanished: “What are you doing here?”
Kieran didn’t notice my reaction at all. He smiled awkwardly:
“Chloe, didn’t you always say you wanted to go shopping for clothes to wear at Harvard? And you needed a new suitcase too. We
could…”
Just then, Dad came back with groceries while Mom returned from her dance class.
Seeing it was Kieran, Dad’s face turned cold: “You’re so busy, Kieran. How do you have time to visit?”
Mom, who’d always been warm to him, grabbed the vacuum and started aggressively cleaning around Kieran.
