William fell silent for a moment.

Just when I thought he was going to refuse again, he looked up at me and the corner of his mouth twitched.
“Oh, then I’ll go.”
I smiled: “That’s wonderful.”
Strangely masochistic as it was, the moment William agreed to go, I didn’t feel particularly relieved.

Chapter 6
On Saturday, I was suddenly called to the counselor’s office to help out, so I was a bit late to the birthday party.
William had gone ahead.
When I entered the private dining room, I saw William sitting right next to Sabrina.
The room was crowded and noisy, with William and Sabrina sitting close together, deep in conversation.
Seeing me, William just glanced at me once, then looked down and continued talking to others.
I put on a smile and handed over my gift, interrupting their conversation.
“Happy birthday!”
Sabrina happily accepted the gift. “Thanks, babe! Come sit down and eat. There are still lots of dishes coming, and we’ll have games after dinner.”
I smiled and nodded. “Okay,”
I looked around and found there was only one empty seat at the neighboring table, so I walked over and sat down.

We were all from the same major, some even from the same class, so naturally everyone knew each other.
The conversation flowed easily, and we had a great time chatting.
But during the lulls in conversation, my peripheral vision kept drifting toward that table.
Ever since I invited William to this gathering, he’d been giving me the cold shoulder. He’d been turning down our usual dinner dates, claiming he was busy.
Today, he’d only given me a single glance.
This made me, who was used to being close to him and sitting together all the time, feel incredibly uncomfortable.
I felt stuffy inside.
I gulped down a large glass of juice, but even the sweetness couldn’t suppress that sour feeling.
Fine, ignore me all you want, but his name above his head was still mine. What was going on?
I ground my teeth in frustration.
I decided to talk to him after the birthday party ended, and if that didn’t work, I’d just lay everything out in the open.

I really couldn’t stand this cold treatment anymore.
Soon, dinner was over.
Quite a few people had been drinking, and riding the high atmosphere, everyone suggested playing games.
The game was the cheesy truth or dare.

I didn’t want to participate initially, but a friend dragged me in.
Just as I sat down and looked up, I saw William sitting down
too.
Probably because he’d been chatting with Sabrina all evening, everyone’s glances toward them carried a hint of teasing.
Sabrina awkwardly waved her hands in denial, while William stared at the floor in silence, lost in thought.
The “Kayla Lewis” on his forehead wasn’t as obvious as it had been recently, but it was still pretty glaring.”
Our little spat wasn’t stopping him from having wet dreams,
What a jerk!
Then someone placed a bottle in the center of the table.

After spinning it, whoever the bottle mouth pointed to would face punishment, while the person at the bottle’s tail would ask the question.
Unluckily, William and I ended up sitting directly across from each other.
In the first round, I got picked.
Except I was at the bottle’s tail.
Clearing my throat, I asked awkwardly, “What do you choose?”
Under everyone’s expectant gaze, William also looked up, his expression cold and indifferent.
“Truth.”
I pressed my lips together and asked dryly, “Why… why do you like the person you have a crush on?”
At my words, William’s eyes flickered.
“No particular reason. I just do.”
“But there’s got to be some reason, right? She’s beautiful, she’s kind, she’s good.”
I stared at him intently, trying to find an answer.

But William just smiled slightly. “That’s a second question. Isn’t that cheating?”
“But you didn’t really answer the first question honestly either.”
I glared at him.
Several girls present who had feelings for William immediately chimed in, demanding he answer properly.
Unable to resist the pressure, William thought for a moment.
“Oh, well then, it’s because I can’t live without her.”
As he said this, his gaze fell squarely on my face.
Hearing this answer, everyone simultaneously narrowed their eyes and broke into knowing smiles.
I buried my head and took another sip of my drink.
Fine then, he can’t live without me.
He’s pretty clingy after all.
