Chapter 7
After that, my mood improved considerably during the rest of the games.
I felt like our earlier conversation had broken the ice, and I could spend the evening playing games and chatting with him. again.
When everything ended, I went back to get my bag, but when I turned around, William was nowhere to be found.
I asked the people nearby, and they said Sabrina had called him out to talk..
I paused for a moment, then walked in that direction anyway.
Not far from the party restaurant entrance, I spotted a man and
Woman.
Their voices weren’t loud, but I could hear them crystal clear.
Sabrina said shyly, “William, you understand why I had Kayla ask you out, right?”
“I understand.”
“So you…”
“I mentioned during the game that I like someone. You don’t

“Are you two together?”
“No.”
“If you’re not, could you give me a chance?”
“A chance?”

“Yeah! I’m not willing to give up without even trying to pursue you.”
“I see. Let me think about it.”
The streetlight cast shadows across William’s face, creating a play of light and dark, except for that name on his forehead.
My throat suddenly felt dry.
Without disturbing them, I returned to the private dining room alone and chatted with my classmates for a while longer.
My eyes kept drifting toward the entrance.
But William and Sabrina never came back.
Suddenly, one of the girls stood up with a knowing smile.
“Girls, let’s head back to the dorm.”

“Huh? Aren’t we waiting for Sabrina to come back? We haven’t finished the cake yet.”
The girl waved her phone: “Hey, Sabrina and William went to see a movie together. Who has time for cake? She might win William over tomorrow and push his first love right out of his heart.”
Everyone laughed even more suggestively.
Someone asked me, “Kayla, you’ve known William for so many years. Do you know who he’s in love with?”
“It’s not you, is it?”
“How could it be Kayla? If it were, they would’ve been together
ages 20
“True.”
They giggled and gossiped away.
Looking at my phone with no messages, I stayed silent for a moment before joining in their teasing.
That night, I don’t know how I made it back to the dorm.
I felt dazed and confused the entire time anyway.

Just before lights–out, I deliberately went next door to borrow something and discovered the birthday girl still hadn’t returned.
I pulled out my phone and found an excuse to ask William’s
roommate.
The answer I got was–William hadn’t come back either.
