Chapter 7
“Nobody touches my daughter! Get out, all of you!” Mr. Reed stood protectively in front of Lydia’s bed, shouting.
“You raised a monster! You deserve to die too!”
“Anyone who hurts a brilliant innovator like Vera deserves death!”
Someone shoved Mr. Reed, causing him to fall heavily. Seeing Lydia about to be dragged from the bed, he quickly got up to intervene.
These people had completely lost their minds. They pushed Mr. Reed down again and grabbed the unconscious Lydia, intending to drag her away.
At that critical moment, Julian appeared with his men.
“Stop!” he commanded. His bodyguards quickly pushed through the crowd, forcing them back.
Mr. Reed cradled Lydia back onto the bed, carefully checking her condition.
Julian glanced at Lydia’s pale complexion and frowned. Just for a police statement, she ended up like this?
Was Vera right? Was Lydia just acting all along?
Pretending to help fulfill his wish while actually refusing to let him go?
Using her injuries to gain sympathy and keep him tied to her?
This time she’d even sent her father to confront the Hayes family.
If not for that, Julian wouldn’t have been dragged by his grandfather from the hospital to resolve this.
Thinking of Vera alone at the hospital, he grew increasingly anxious. Whatever concern he had for Lydia instantly vanished.
“Julian Hayes, I gave my daughter to you in marriage, and this is how you torment her?” Mr. Reed raged at Julian. “If you don’t want to stay married,
then divorce her!”
Lydia slowly opened her eyes, weakly grabbing her father’s hand. “We can’t divorce now. Not yet.”
“Lydia! After everything he’s done to you, you still…” Mr. Reed’s face darkened with grief.
Lydia couldn’t tell her father the truth, just held tightly to his hand.
Since she was still alive, she would endure until Julian’s fake death and claim what was rightfully hers.
Julian, hearing her words, wore a strange expression. He hadn’t expected Lydia to love him so obsessively.
Even after being tortured like this, she still refused to divorce him, preferring to live as his widow rather than leave him.
Julian felt a moment of genuine emotion before quickly regaining his composure.
He loved Vera, and soon he would leave with her.
After the intruders were dispersed, Julian approached Lydia’s bedside, looking down at her with a warning tone.
“I’ll handle the online rumors, and this kind of thing won’t happen again. But you were wrong to hurt someone, and that’s a fact. Vera isn’t pressing charges, thankfully. You know what you need to do when you see my grandfather-I shouldn’t have to spell it out.”
Lydia gazed at him calmly, nodding slightly. “I’ll apologize to your grandfather.”
Julian left, satisfied.
Mr. Reed’s face was contorted with rage as he glared at Lydia, wanting to speak but ultimately just sighing deeply.
His daughter was truly blinded by love. He couldn’t understand what charisma Julian Hayes possessed that made her willing to sacrifice everything
for him.
“Dad, I don’t love Julian anymore. There’s a reason I’m not divorcing him,” Lydia said, clutching her father’s hand weakly. She explained Julian’s fake illness scheme and her plan to remarry after his “death.”
Mr. Reed’s expression shifted from anger to shock, and finally to heartbreak.
At this point, Mr. Reed could only support Lydia’s decision to persevere until Julian’s fake death.
Under pressure from Julian’s grandfather, Julian intervened with the online rumors. The posts about Lydia were deleted, and several influencers were paid to defend her, easily putting the matter to rest.
