The Commander got up, patting off non–existent dirt, looking disgusted.
A barrier formed at the door.

The Council Chamber’s defense mode activated. We couldn’t get out today, Pie
“Ethan, you’re hurting me.”
He said, the corners of his mouth splitting into two large cracks, opening to a horrifying degree as he pounced towards us.
“Olivia.”
I turned back in shock.
Lucas had appeared outside the barrier at some point, blood flowing from the hollow in his chest, staining the carpet blue.
“You stay back a bit.”
His scorpion pincers pounded on the barrier.
With a bang, black fragments scattered, blood splattered.
Lucas seemed to feel no pain, continuing to pound frantically.
“Bang–”
<
“Bang-”
The Commander’s face changed as he cursed at him.
“Lucas, have you gone mad!”
“Is a human worth it!”
Only then did I see Lucas clutching a glowing beast core in his hand.
The human part of him had already died. What remained was only his beast nature, the pure instinct of a beast without rationality.
The Commander transformed into his beast form.
A giant black python nearly occupied half the room.
The red scorpion stood in front of us.
“Take her away. Leave this to me.”
Outside was already surrounded by beast–people.
Ethan held the long knife in one hand and me in the other, easily breaking through their blockade.
He took me to a safe area.
“Wait for me. I’ll be back soon!”
Just as he took a few steps, a blinding blue light came from the distance.
A huge boom.
*******
The shockwave overturned buildings for hundreds of meters around. Even with Ethan holding me tightly, we couldn’t ignore the heart–piercing pain.
A white flash exploded before my eyes.
I don’t know how long it was before I gradually heard Ethan’s voice.
“Olivia……”
I turned my head. Amidst the devastation, a daisy bloomed in the center.
“He’s dead.”
Completely dead.
Lucas could have survived as an ordinary little scorpion.
My hatred for him dissipated along with the daisy petals blown away by the wind.
“Let’s bury him.”
