Oliver gazed at my noticeably pregnant belly, his eyes wide with disbelief.
“Marie, you’re pregnant? I thought you were infertile! When did this happen? Why didn’t you tell me?”

“My health has been fine for a long time. Besides, this baby isn’t yours, so why would I need to tell you?”

Their eyes locked, and tension crackled in the air as neither backed down.
Sally, feeling neglected after so long, was already boiling with anger. Seeing the confrontation, her jealousy erupted, and she taunted me with biting sarcasm.
“Oh, I thought Ms. Libere was the loyal sort, but it turns out she’s just a loose woman who’d go with anyone.”
Adam instantly stepped forward the moment the words left her lips.
“You’d better shut that foul mouth of yours, or you’ll regret it.”
Sally recoiled, quickly seeking refuge behind Oliver. She stayed silent.
To everyone’s surprise, Oliver didn’t come to her defense this time.
I gently squeezed Adam’s clenched fist to soothe him, then cast a contemptuous glance at Sally.
“Maybe you should worry about yourself first.
“The man beside you even said he’d let me raise the baby after you give
birth.”
Sally’s face instantly paled. She instinctively covered her belly and stepped back, but I wasn’t done.
“Oh, and he tried to make me deal with other women not long ago. You’ve been so busy texting me from his phone every day. I wonder if you’ve noticed?”
At this, Sally spun around to stare at Oliver in disbelief, her voice trembling with tears.
