The second day of school, the cops took me in.
Apparently, I’d ripped off a chunk of another
girl’s scalp during a fight.
Because I refused to go to a normal high-
school, my parents donated a ton of cash to
the school so Harlow and Jake could attend the
school as guest students.

I didn’t understand why they were so obsessed
with forcing us together.
I got into honors classes. The next day, three
seniors cornered me in the stairwell and
demanded “protection money.”
I told them to fuck off.
When you’ve already died once, you’re capable
of anything. I didn’t hold back.
And I ended up ripping a strip of hair off one of
the girls.
The school freaked out, called the cops and our
parents.
At the police station, Jake stood in the hallway,
jabbing his finger at me.
“So this is how you make Mom and Dad proud?
www
You’re just a troublemaker! We shouldn’t have
brought you back.”
“Today you beat someone up, tomorrow you’ll
murder someone!”
Harlow tried to hide her glee. “Olivia, Mom and
Dad had such high hopes for you. Why would
you do this?”
“What’s going to happen now? If they don’t
forgive you, you could go to jail!”
She glanced at my parents. “Maybe we should
pay them off? If Olivia goes to prison, it’ll ruin her chances for college.”
My dad shot me a look of disappointment. “Why do you have such a bad temper?”
“Just take it, it’s not a big deal. Why’d you have
to go so hard?”
<
I gave him a cold look. “They wanted my
money, called me a slut, and slammed my head
against the wall. You think I should just let them walk all over me?”
Harlow frowned. “That’s your fault, Olivia.
Maybe you should think about what you did to make them target you. They don’t pick on anyone else. Maybe you…” Smack!
I didn’t let her finish. I slapped her across the face.
The sound echoed through the police station.
“Maybe you should think about why I only hit you.”
Jake lunged at me, but Charles held him back. “Olivia, how dare you hit your sister in front of me! You’re out of control!”
Harlow hid behind Elizabeth, crying, making

Apologize!”

I glared back. “I have nothing to apologize for.
Like she said, she should think about what she
did to deserve it.”
Charles exploded, pointing at me. “Officer,
handle this however you need to. This kid needs.
to be taught a lesson.”
“Don’t worry, officer. She’s my daughter, but I
won’t interfere.”
The cop nodded, turning to Jake. “You’re Jake
Sterling, right?”
Jake looked confused. “Yeah, that’s me.”
The cop crooked his finger. “Come with me. I have some questions for you.”
