I stood up.
Angela appeared, blocking my path. “Hannah, long time no see.”
She gracefully linked her arm with Frank’s, her smile gentle and perfect.
I offered a polite smile in return, placed my wine bottle on the floor, took a deep breath, and turned my attention back to my conve- rsation. I didn’t notice Frank’s gaze fixed on me, lingering long after I had turned away.

one of our old professors later–the highly respected director of the dance association. She had always thought highly of me in
school, so I definitely had to go.
After confirming my makeup was flawless, I pushed open the door-
“Hannah?” Angela, in a flowing white dress, appeared before me.
“Hello,” I replied.
As I moved to pass her, she suddenly grabbed my wrist. I winced in pain and tried to pull away, but for someone who looked so
delicate, her grip was surprisingly strong.
Angela glanced around. Seeing no one, she leaned close to my ear. “You and Frank lived together for over six months. My sudden
return must have really messed things up for you. You must be furious, right?”
I froze. So, she knew everything.
But I quickly composed myself. I had always believed we were in a loving, cohabiting relationship, not some sordid affair. I had not-
bing to be ashamed of.
Worried, I secretly started a voice recording on my phone. I tilted my head and yanked my hand free. “So what if I am?”
“Oh, little Hannah…” Angela’s voice was a soft purr. “To think you took care of my fiancé for over a year, free of charge. So diligent. I
really should thank you.”
Her previous image of a delicate, innocent flower vanished, replaced by a blatant, provocative glint in her eyes. “It’s just a shame
you got nothing out of it in the end. I mean, Frank didn’t even give you a title. People who know might think you just weren’t public
yet. But people who don’t know might think you were his paid mistress, or maybe a call girl.”
Her gaze was nauseating as it roamed over my body. “Then again, little Hannah, you certainly dress the part.”
“I’ll have to make sure Frank gets a thorough check–up, just in case you passed on any… unsavory diseases.”
With that, she reached for my hair and made a move as if to check under my clothes. “Coming to a reunion like this… don’t tell me
you came commando, hoping to seduce…”
