He and Leo walked over to me. Leo reached out to grab my hand.
I slapped it away.
“Leo Clark, I hope you’re a man of your word. The Clark Corporation is mine.”
Tears welled in Leo’s eyes. “It’s all yours, Lila. It’s all yours. Sister, I was wrong.
Spencer stood beside me, wanting to apologize but not knowing what to say.
”
I turned to my parents. “Mom, Dad, let’s cancel the engagement with the Whitehall family. I don’t want a fiancé who changes his loyalties at the drop of a hat.”
I looked at Spencer. “If you still want to marry Jenna, I’ll respect you for being a man of your word.”
Jenna stared at the report, reading it over and over before finally crumpling it in her fist. She couldn’t believe her eyes. She grabbed Spencer’s arm. “Spencer! You said you’d marry me, remember?”
Spencer flung her hand off. “I was going to marry the Clark heiress. A janitor’s daughter? In your dreams!”
Maria Miller was also frozen, muttering to herself, “But I did switch them… my daughter… how could it be
Jenna?”
Jenna slapped her mother across the face. “Your daughter? Your daughter suffered 18 years of your abuse! Hahaha! How ironic! You gave 18 years of motherly love to a complete stranger!”
“And me? Your real daughter! What did I get!?”
With a final, crazed scream, Jenna ran out of the room.
“Jenna!” Maria cried out, her legs giving way. She nearly collapsed but managed to stumble to her feet and
follow her out.
My parents came and hugged me. “Our dear daughter, we knew you were ours all along!”
Spencer was still beside me, pleading. “Lila, I was blind, it was my fault. Please, just give me one more chan-
ce.”
Sadie’s brother, Nick, knocked Spencer’s hand away from me.
He took my hand and walked me over to my parents. “Mr. and Mrs. Clark, I came here today with Sadie to ask for your daughter’s hand in marriage. It doesn’t matter whose daughter she is. I want to marry her.”

My father’s eyes lit up. “Nick! You…!”
He was so thrilled he was incoherent, grabbing Nick’s hand, looking as if he’d just found a priceless treasure.
I turned to Sadie. “What did you say his name was?”
