Chapter 6
Alaric’s illness came suddenly and mysteriously. None of the court physicians could determine the cause.
After I was brought back to the palace, he collapsed again, vomiting blood and losing consciousness. The palace was thrown into chaos.
During the confusion, Lyanna slipped into my room.
Sensing her approach, I instinctively took a step back.
“Lyanna, what do
you
want?”
Her voice was cold and menacing.
“Elira, you’re already blind. Why do you still insist on opposing me?”
I tried to remain calm as I defended myself. “Whatever happens between you and Alaric has nothing to do with me. I’ve never tried to interfere.”
Lyanna stared at me, half convinced.
Then she suddenly laughed coldly.
“Too bad you

Lyanna burst into laughter. “You poisoned Prince Alaric and, consumed by guilt, took poison yourself. What does that have to do with me?”
A cold sweat broke out across my back.
So that was her plan all along.
Taking advantage of her moment of carelessness, I lunged toward the door.
“Help-!”
Before I could finish, she grabbed me from behind and clamped a hand over my mouth, dragging
backward.
“Elira, I didn’t want to hurt you either. But you’ve left me no choice–you’re standing in
way.‘
“Don’t worry. I won’t let you suffer too much.”
As she spoke, she seized my jaw, trying to force poison into my mouth.
I clenched my teeth and smacked her hand with all my strength.
With a sharp crack, the bottle fell to the floor.
Lyanna’s face darkened. She slapped me hard across the face. “Ungrateful wenc

She grabbed my hair and slammed my face to the ground. “Lick it up. Every drop.”
I shook my head furiously, refusing to yield.
Furious, Lyanna kicked me a few times, then pinned me under her. Broken glass from the bottle

Alexander stormed in and pulled Lyanna off me. “Miss. Vethorne, are you alright?”
I raised my head in a daze. When his eyes met my blood–soaked face, he froze, stunned.
“Your eyes… what happened to your eyes?”
