Chapter 7
Just as I was about to speak, Alaric was helped into the room by palace attendants, looking pale and weak.
Fearing I might expose what had just happened, Lyanna quickly played the victim.
“Your Highness, save me! Elira and Prince Alexander are trying to harm me!”
Alaric shot me a glare like a dagger and ground his teeth.
“Elira, I warned you, and you still dared to lay a hand on her?”
I gave a bitter laugh. “Your Highness, look at me. In this state, how could I possibly hurt her?”
Alaric froze for a moment.
Only then did he notice my swollen eyes, the bright handprint on my cheek, and the blood on my face.
Alexander frowned and calmly recounted everything that had happened.
Lyanna bit her lip, her voice panicked.
“Your Highness, they’re working together! You can’t believe what they say. For all we know, they might even be behind your illness.”
Alaric had harbored some doubts already. But seeing me stand beside Alexander, and recalling how the prince had defended me–twice -his tone turned frosty.
“Elira, do you have anything else to say?”
I looked at him, incredulous. “Counting today, I’ve only met Prince Alexander twice. How could we possibly be conspiring together to harm you?”
“On the other hand, perhaps you should investigate Lyanna more closely. You might discover something unexpected.”
A flash of panic crossed Lyanna’s face. “You’re talking nonsense! Your Highness, I’m carrying your child. Why would I ever harm you?”
As she spoke, her eyes welled with tears.
Alaric’s expression changed the moment she mentioned the child. He looked at me and Alexander with hatred, clearly buying her story.
I let out a cold laugh. “Are you so sure that child is really yours, Prince Alaric?”
Lyanna’s face went ghostly white. She whipped her head around to glare at me.
Alaric snapped, “What are you implying, Elira?”
“You could call in Lucian, who works at the royal stables. One question will tell you everything.”
In the previous life, after Lyanna drowned herself in Sapphire Lake, Alaric had dispatched men to dredge the waters for over a month without finding her body. And Lucian had disappeared without a trace.
I’d secretly investigated him and found that he had often visited Lyanna’s chambers late at night.
I’d long suspected that she never died–and that the child wasn’t Alaric’s, but Lucian’s.
Judging by her expression, my suspicion had been right.
Lyanna’s face turned as pale as ash.
“Your Highness, don’t listen to her! I love you! How could I possibly betray you?”
I sneered.
“Then why won’t you face Lucian? What are you afraid of?”
Lyanna was momentarily speechless, her face stiff.

She gritted her teeth and shot me a vicious glare.
A matter like this–concerning the royal bloodline–could not be taken lightly.
With a grim face, Alaric ordered someone to summon Lucian.
Lucian had never been in such a situation before. He fell to his knees, shaking like a leaf.
One glare from the guards and he confessed everything. “Your Highness, please spare me… It was Lyanna! She seduced me! Please have mercy!”
Lyanna’s vision went dark. She rushed forward and slapped him several times.
“Who told you to say
that? Was it Elira? You’re all working together to frame me, aren’t you?!”
Lucian’s face swelled under her blows.
In a desperate bid to protect himself, he pulled a delicate item from his robes–a woman’s undergarment. He had stolen it from Lyanna’s room when she wasn’t paying attention.
Alaric recognized it immediately. It was hers.
His eyes burned with rage as he kicked her hard in the stomach.
“You vile woman! Haven’t I treated you well enough?”
“Why would you betray me?”
