Chapter 3
Tessa tugged me into a seat and leaned in.
“Nevara, did you see that? That was Kael’s mate just now!”
“She’s wearing a diamond necklace Kael gave her yesterday. I heard it’s worth over a million dollars!”
I nodded absentmindedly. I had already decided to leave. Caela’s appearance today just made it painfully clear where I stood in Kael’s
heart.
I gathered my paperwork and resignation letter and knocked on the door of Kael’s office.
“Come in,” he said coldly.
I placed everything on his desk–every file I needed to hand over before leaving.
Kael flipped through the documents. The more he read, the darker his expression grew. Finally, he looked up at me with a mocking smile tugging at the corners of his mouth.
“Nevara, I thought you’d changed. I thought you weren’t going to throw childish tantrums anymore. But look at you, back to your old ways already.”
With that, he threw the documents in my face.
I stepped aside and avoided them. Then I lowered my head and began picking up the pages scattered across the floor.
He kept talking.
“So what? You’re mad because I gave Caela the Luna title? She and I come from the same background. I trust her. That’s why I chose her. What right do you have to be upset?”
I calmly stacked the papers and set them on his desk
“I’m not angry. I just want to leave Nightveil Pack.”

So Caela grew up with you. You know her well.
But what about me?
All these years, I chased after your footsteps, working day and night just to keep up. And in your eyes, that effort meant absolutely nothing.
Kael looked down at me with disdain. “You think you’re really that capable? I’ve already reassigned you under Caela. You’ll be working as her Beta from now on
I gave him a cold smile. “My time is just as valuable. I’m done doing work I don’t love.”
“Fine! Then leave! Let’s see which pack is stupid enough to take you in!” Kael shouted, rising from his chair with fury in his eyes.
But I simply turned and walked away.
Those six years with Kael? I might as well have fed them to the wolves.
I would never revolve around him again.
And the idea that I should grovel before Caela? Dream about it!
After I finished packing up everything from the pack hall, I was about to leave when Caela suddenly walked in, looking anxious.
“Sorry, everyone. I think I lost the necklace I was wearing today. Can I ask for your cooperation? We need to do a routine check.” The other lycans in the hall began whispering.
“I saw the Luna’s necklace earlier. That diamond was huge–super sparkly!”

“I mean, she was polite, but it’s obvious what she’s implying. Someone probably got greedy and stole it.”
“Oh no! We actually have a thief in the pack? That explains why my snacks keep disappearing off my desk!”
Kael stood beside Caela and ordered the Betas to block the doors. Then they started checking everyone one by one.
When it was my turn, I set down my box and cooperated with the search.
Kael immediately spotted the moonstone ornament he’d once given me, sitting right on top. He froze for a moment, then ordered the Betas to dump the entire box out.
My things hit the floor with a clatter. The ornament shattered, just like our six–year relationship–once cracked, it could never be whole again.
As the Betas sifted through my things, Caela suddenly gasped, covering her mouth in shock.
“My necklace!”
