“Nevara, Tiber truly cares for you. Your father and I chose him ourselves–how could we possibly be wrong?”
I nodded. Tiber had been nothing but attentive and considerate the entire trip, and I’d seen it all.
But I couldn’t help thinking of Kael and Caela, who were getting engaged today, basking in everyone’s blessings and praise–while I had been slandered as a thief.
In the end, I chose to tell my parents everything about that relationship.
Kael and I had met shortly after we shifted for the first time. We followed the will of the Moon Goddess and chose to be together.
I’d vaguely heard that he had a childhood sweetheart, his so–called first love, but I had never seen Caela around him, so I didn’t take it seriously.
There was a crystal orb on Kael’s desk. One time, while cleaning his study, I accidentally bumped into it. He immediately stood up and shoved me away.
“From now on, stay out of my study. You’re not allowed to touch anything in here again.”
His face had been dark with anger as he spoke to me, but when he turned to pick up the crystal orb, his eyes softened with such tenderness.
I had fallen to the floor, and when I looked up at him, I unintentionally caught sight of the engraving at the base of the orb: “A gift from Caela.”
That memory led me back to our six years of almost platonic love. Kael always said he liked me, but all he ever did was hold my hand or occasionally hug me. He never kissed me, never touched me beyond the most polite gestures.
I once asked him why he never showed any real physical desire for me. He replied, “We’re only dating right now. Things like that should only happen when we mark each other. I’m holding back because I love you.”
At the time, I was so moved. I believed him even more and became even more determined to be with him. I even turned down the Alpha mate my parents had chosen for me.
Now that Caela has become the Luna, everything finally made sense–all these years, Kael had been saving himself for her.
There was even one night when he got drunk and mumbled that I wasn’t even worth a strand of Caela’s hair.
Back then, I thought he was just rambling nonsense. But now, I realized every word had come from the depths of his heart.
My parents were heartbroken after hearing everything.
My father said, “Good. You should experience the pain of love once, just so you understand how much we’ve protected you all these years.”
But I noticed the veins bulging on the back of his hand, his face darkening like he wanted to go drag Kael out and beat him on the spot. My mother pulled me into a hug, gently comforting me.
“It’s alright. You’re home now, so let’s not dwell on bad memories. It was just a diamond necklace. Tomorrow I’ll buy you a few more. You can wear a different one every day if you want.”
The ache in my chest from all those memories began to fade, and I couldn’t help but smile through my tears. That night, I finally got a good night’s rest.
The next morning, I woke to find dozens of missed calls from an unfamiliar number.
I had slept with my phone on airplane mode, and the moment I switched it back on, the notifications flooded in like a tidal wave–99+ missed calls, chime after chime ringing out like an alarm.
A second later, the phone rang again. I hesitated but picked up. Whoever it was had clearly been trying very hard to reach me.

“Hello?” I said.
A familiar voice came through the receiver.
“Nevara, how long are you planning to keep this up? You moved out of the apartment? Where are you staying now?”
“Caela’s already decided to let the whole thing go, and I’m not going to force you to apologize anymore. Just come back to Nightveil Pack, and I’ll appoint you as my Beta.”
I let out a cold laugh.
“Did you even read the message I sent you yesterday? If the flood of congratulations at your engagement distracted you, I don’t mind repeating it out loud.”
Kael went silent.
I continued, clearly and without hesitation.
“I reject you.”
“Well? Was that clear enough for you? Did you hear me this time?”
Before he could say anything, I hung up and blocked the number and even deleted.
Let him ruin someone else’s morning.
Honestly, He was too exhausting.
