Chapter 18
Clarisse sat in the room, slightly dazed as she looked around at the overwhelming display of luxury.
From the moment she arrived at the Noctelle Pack, the servants had been delivering gifts nonstop.
Couture dresses, limited–edition jewelry, designer handbags… the entire room was nearly buried under them.
“Clarisse, this is a blue diamond necklace Adrian just won at an auction.”
“This dress was flown in from overseas–it’s the latest design. Adrian said you liked red, so he ordered the entire collection.”
“And these bags…”
Clarisse finally couldn’t take it anymore and raised her hand to stop them. “Take a good look at this room. Is there even space left to put anything?”
The servants looked at one another in silence. One of them quickly pressed her earpiece and whispered a report, “Adrian, Clarisse says the room’s too small. She’ll need a new two–thousand–square–meter wolf castle.”
Clarisse said, exasperated. “…That’s not what I meant!”
The servant replied earnestly, “Adrian said there’s no spending limit when it comes to you.”
Clarisse rubbed her forehead. “There’s no way he’s supposed to be spending money like this.”
“Adrian is wealthy,” the servant replied solemnly. “This is just a drop in the ocean.”
Clarisse took a deep breath and finally asked the question that had been bothering her for days. “It’s been nearly a week since I got here. Can I meet Adrian now?”
The servant hesitated. “Adrian said… he’s not mentally prepared yet.”
Clarisse let out a sharp laugh in anger. “So he invited me here, but he’s not ready to meet me?” She stood up. “Fine. I’m going back.”
The moment the words left her lips, the servants all straightened up in unison and said respectfully, “Adrian.”
Clarisse froze and turned toward the door.
Footsteps approached from the corridor, slow and steady. A tall figure finally appeared in her line of sight.
He stepped into the room without saying a word. He didn’t need to. His very presence commanded attention, enough to make every young werewolf stand at attention and submit.
His golden eyes swept across the room, then locked onto Clarisse.
She found herself unable to breathe.
There was a force in the way he looked at her. The look of a predator who had finally caught the scent of something forbidden–raw,
intense, and possessive.
Clarisse was stunned.
So this was Adrian Montclair?
The so–called dying heir of the Noctelle Pack?
He looked like he could punch a hole through a wall with one hand.
The day she arrived, she had mentally prepared herself to become a Luna widow after being marked by the Alpha. But there had been no grief in the air of the Noctelle Pack, no foul scent of witches‘ potions. On the contrary, the place had been festively decorated, full of joy and celebration. Everyone welcomed her with genuine cheer.
She had tried to visit Adrian to check on him, but his family had blocked her at every turn.

“Clary, dear, Adrian isn’t ready to see visitors right now…”
“Yes, yes, he needs complete rest…”
“You just got here. Why don’t you have some rest in first….”
And now that she mentioned leaving, now he finally showed up.
Adrian stood by the door, but his ears were suspiciously red–just like the servants had said he really was unprepared to see her.
Clarisse narrowed her eyes. “Adrian, do you care to explain?”
Adrian cleared his throat, but before he could speak, his family rushed in behind him, crowding around Clarisse in a flurry of chatter.
“Clary, please don’t be upset. Adrian’s just… very shy.”
“Yes, yes! He’s never known how to do or confess his feelings to the one he loves….”
“We had no choice, really. That’s why we came up with this idea….”
Clarisse frowned. Something didn’t sound right. “Hold on. What idea?”
Adrian’s father let out a sigh and finally confessed, “Actually… Adrian’s not sick at all.”
Clarisse was confused, “…What?”
Adrian’s mother added, “He’s had a crush on you for a long time but didn’t have the courage to confess. So we came up with the idea of offering a huge fortune, and we thought your money–hungry father might agree to send you here…”
Clarisse was speechless. She was completely stunned.
She turned to Adrian. He immediately looked away, guilt written all over his face he didn’t dare meet her eyes.
“So…” Clarisse said slowly, “You faked being sick to trick me into coming here?”
Adrian pressed his lips together, then finally summoned the courage to look up at her and said, “It wasn’t about tricking you… I just thought you wouldn’t come otherwise.”
Clarisse let out an incredulous laugh in fury. “Then why have you been hiding? You’ve been sending me gifts non–stop, but you won’t even show your face all week. What? Were you planning to buy the entire supernatural world and gift it to me?”
Adrian’s ears turned even redder. He muttered, “I still haven’t found the perfect gift yet.”
Clarisse was left speechless again.
She took a deep breath and asked the most important question. “You said you’ve had a crush on me for a long time… Have we met before?”
Adrian’s gaze shifted slightly, and this time, he finally looked straight into her eyes.
“Clarisse, you really don’t remember?”
