Chapter 14
Sierra scrambled to her feet, reaching out to hug Aaron, desperation in her eyes.
But this time, Aaron wasn’t having it.
He shoved her back to the ground, looming over her, his voice ice–cold. “I don’t hit
women. Get out. Now.”
“Aaron…”
“Out!” he roared.
Sierra froze, sensing the raw fury radiating off him. He was one step away from losing it
completely.
“L–look, I’ll make you something to eat. You must be starving, right? I’ll head to the kitchen-”
Aaron cut her off, each word dripping with menace. “Get out of mine and Rachel’s
house.”
A warrior showed up, grabbed Sierra and her stuff, and tossed her out without
ceremony.
Finally, the house felt… quiet. Empty, but quiet.
Aaron sank to the floor, clutching the box of photos like it was his lifeline. His fingers
traced Rachel’s handwriting, each letter a memory.
She’d come to the pack as a kid, and he’d been the one to guide her tiny hand, teaching her to write, stroke by stroke.
“Rachel, where are you now?” He murmured, holding the box close, like it was the last
piece of her he had left.
“Rachel, where are you?”

Rachel jolted awake, heart pounding.
Amanda leaned over, concern creasing her brow. “Rachel, are you Okay? you look rough. Bad dream?”
Rachel blinked, reality sinking in.
She was out to dinner with Edmund and Amanda, who’d dragged her along to meet the editor of some fancy international magazine.
The editor, Sam, was running late–something about a last–minute issue–so Rachel
had dozed off on the plush lounge sofa, her sleep restless as always lately.
“Here.”
A clean, steady hand offered her a tissue.

Rachel hesitated, then took it. “Thanks, Justin.”
曲
She wiped the sweat from her forehead, still half–lost in the dream’s haze.
Noticing Rachel looked shaken, Amanda softened. “Hey, you okay? Don’t stress about
Sam. He’s a good guy–funny, chill. He’s buddies with Edmund and already loves your
photography portfolio.”
Rachel nodded, forcing a smile. “I know. It’s just… I dreamed about the past.”
“The past?” Amanda raised an eyebrow. “What’s so scary about that? Your brother spoiled you rotten growing up. Shouldn’t those be sweet dreams?”
Rachel didn’t know how to explain the ache in her chest.
Justin stepped in, smooth as ever. “Nobody’s life is all sunshine and rainbows, Amanda. Rachel’s got her own stuff to deal with.”
Amanda tilted her head, curious. “What, like Aaron being too overprotective? I think Edmund mentioned that once. Big brothers can be intense, you know? He probably just
worried about you too much.”

Justin shot her a look. “Amanda, Rachel’s her own person. Maybe we don’t need to keep bringing up her brother.”
Amanda blinked, surprised, but caught Rachel’s quiet nod and backed off. “Alright, fair enough. No more brother talks.”
Rachel’s eyes flicked to Justin, gratitude shining through. “Thanks.”
It wasn’t that she couldn’t let go of Aaron. The second she’d stepped on that plane,
she’d vowed to move on.
But her life had been so tangled up with his–every memory, every moment. Classmates, friends, teachers… everyone always brought him up, like he was the center
of her universe.
Justin, though? He got it. He saw her, not just Aaron’s shadow.
For the first time, she felt like her own person–free, unburdened, her emotions no
longer tethered to someone else.
Sam finally strolled in, fashionably late.
He was a middle–aged guy with a quick grin, and the second he spotted Rachel, he chuckled. “Well, damn. Don’t we know each other from somewhere?”
Rachel pulled herself together, throwing every ounce of energy into nailing this
“interview.”
She flashed a playful grin. “Mr. Hall, that pickup line’s a bit old–school, don’t you
think?”
Sam let out a belly laugh. “Rachel, you’re a riot.”
“I’m not just a riot–my photography skills are straight fire.”
Confident, charming, sharp as a tack.
Without Aaron’s shadow looming over her, she could shine on her own terms.

As they wrapped up, Sam didn’t waste time. “We’ve got a big–deal interview coming up at the magazine, and we’re short a killer photographer. Rachel, if you’re in, swing by the office ASAP to start.”
Rachel gave a quick nod. “Count me in.”
“Oh, and that line earlier? Not some cheesy flirt move. I swear we’ve crossed paths before.”
Rachel shrugged, smirking. “I just got to Milan, so maybe you met my doppelgänger or something.”
Sam chuckled, letting it go. “Maybe.”
After they parted ways, Sam slid into his car, racking his brain. Where the hell have I
seen her?
His driver glanced at him. “Mr. Hall, you crushing on that girl or what?”
Sam scoffed. “She’s young enough to be my sister, man. No way.”
Then it hit him like a lightning bolt.
“Wait–I know where I saw her!”
