Chapter 16
Justin’s cheeks flushed, but he powered through, his voice steady. “Back at school, I had a crush on you. But then that whole love letter fiasco happened, and I got shipped off abroad for some random exchange program. Never got the chance to tell you.”
Rachel wasn’t that shocked. Since she’d landed in Milan, Justin had been going above
and beyond the “old school friend” role. She wasn’t naive–she’d picked up on the
vibes.
And honestly? She didn’t mind. Justin was a solid guy, genuinely good. But she hadn’t
expected him to lay it all out so soon.
“Don’t you think it’s a bit… fast?” she asked, tilting her head. “We haven’t known each other that long.”
Justin shrugged, his eyes earnest. “Life’s too short, Rachel. I wasted seven years
crushing on you from afar because I was too scared to make a move. This time, I’m not hiding in the shadows. I’m ready for you to shoot me down if that’s how it goes, but I’d regret it forever if I didn’t at least try.”
His words hit her like a soft punch.
She’d spent years pining for Aaron, waiting for him to say something, to notice her.
But maybe it wasn’t that complicated. Maybe she could’ve just told him how she felt. Even if he’d rejected her, would it have been worse than this this limbo she was stuck
in now?
“Rachel, no pressure. Take your time, think it over.”
“I-”
Before she could finish, a strong arm yanked her into a tight embrace.
The familiar scent of expensive cologne flooded her senses, and she knew instantly.
Aaron.

His arms, once her safe haven, felt… different now. After just a few days apart, there was a strange distance, like a crack had formed between them.
“You’re okay. Thank God. Come on, we’re going back to the pack—”
Justin stepped forward, confused. “Rachel, who’s this?”
Rachel gently pushed Aaron away, putting some space between them–enough to keep things civil. Then, with a calm voice, she said, “Let me introduce you. This is Aaron, Alpha of the Whitemoon Pack. Also… my brother.”
Aaron’s brow furrowed. “Brother?”
“Isn’t that what you are?” Rachel said.
“Rachel,” he said, his voice low, “I saw the photos you left me.”
Her expression didn’t flicker. She just gave a soft, “Oh.”
“But Sierra destroyed some of them.”
“Figures,” Rachel said, her voice flat. “She’s your Luna. She can do whatever she wants
with your stuff.”
“She’s not!” Aaron grabbed her shoulders, his voice desperate. “Rachel, I never sealed
the mate bond with her. I called off the mating ceremony the second I realized you were
gone. I’ve been tearing the world apart looking for you. There was even a she–wolf
who… she was wearing your donated clothes, and she… I thought it was you…”
Rachel frowned, wincing. “Alpha, let go. You’re hurting me!”
“Stop calling me Alpha!”
She looked up at him, a tight smile on her lips. “Fine. Alpha Aaron. That better?”
Aaron’s jaw clenched, fury flashing in his eyes. “Rachel!”
She took a deep breath, prying his hands off her shoulders one finger at a time, then stepped back, standing firmly beside Justin.

“I wasn’t done introducing,” she said coolly. “Alpha Aaron, this is my boyfriend, Justin.”
