Chapter 4
In the bridal shop, I wore a white wedding dress, with a scar on my shoulder exposed.
The clerk looked at me awkwardly. “Mireya, how about trying this one instead?”
It was already the fifth dress.
The scar came from saving Dorian, who was struck by a silver weapon. Even healing
magic couldn’t erase it, and its size made it hard to conceal.
Guilt flickered in Dorian’s eyes. His fingers danced briefly before he turned off his phone
screen.
He reached to touch the scar, as he had countless times before, but I subtly dodged.
His hand froze mid–air.
“Too many people,” I explained dismissively.
The confusion in his eyes faded. He grabbed my hand, kissing my fingertips. “Are you upset? It’s okay, Mireya. You’ll always be the most beautiful in my heart.‘
Our relationship was like this dress I tried on—either unflattering, or incapable of concealing what lay beneath.
Most importantly, he was tainted.
“Mm.”
I pulled my hand back, responding faintly, and turned to try another dress.
As I slipped out of the gown, down to my undergarments, Dorian’s phone rang outside
the fitting room.
Lacey’s cloying, whining voice came through.
She complained her stomach hurt, that the pain was killing her.

Dorian hurriedly comforted her.
I quickly put my regular clothes back on.
The next second, Dorian ignored the clerk’s protests and flung open the fitting room door. “Mireya, are you dead in there?! So slow!”
His hand was still on the voice message button, his tone softening abruptly. “Don’t worry, I’m coming to you now.”
I looked at him calmly. A trace of guilt flashed in his eyes.
Sensing the tension, the clerk tried to lighten the mood. “You’re about to get married. Can’t the groom be a bit gentler?”
Dorian scoffed. “She’s just a deaf girl. Do I need to watch my tone with her?”
His words seemed to reassure not only others but himself too.
The guilt in his eyes vanished instantly. He didn’t care why I stopped trying on dresses.
The moment his voice message sent, he signed to me with a stern expression that the
Roselure Pack had “urgent pack business” and he had to leave immediately.
Without looking back, he left.
Lacey’s whiny voice seemed to linger in the shop.
The clerk, having witnessed an odd love triangle, looked at me with pity.
I handed her the dress. She asked, “Should we schedule another time to try again?”
Realizing I couldn’t hear, she reached for a pen and paper to communicate.
I smiled at her. “No need. Keep the deposit.”
“You can hear? Then just now…
Under her shocked gaze, I turned off the recording in my pocket, gave her a faint smile,
and walked out.
