Chapter 14
Divorce certificate?!
Xander trembled as he stared at it.
After a long pause, his shaking hand reached out to open it. His heart plummeted.
Xander & Caitlin
Their names stared back from the
page.
So Caitlin hadn’t run away from home; she had divorced him instead.
But why didn’t he know anything about it?
Xander felt both bewildered and terrified.
Suddenly, he raised his eyes to scrutinize Eleanor.
His deep gaze smoldered with fury as he seized her wrist, demanding: “Why do you have this marriage certificate? Did you scheme this?”
Xander already suspected her, and now she showed up with the marriage. certificate. He wanted to know exactly what she was plotting.
His grip tightened with rage.
Eleanor frowned and whined: “I saw it in your office! It was mailed to you a week ago. I thought it was from a client, but when I opened it, I found the divorce certificate.”
“Xander, you’re hurting me-”
Chapter 14
She tried to pull away, but Xander kept holding her wrist firmly, hist thoughts already drifting far away.
One week ago?!
Was that the day he left?
Caitlin had promised to wait for him, yet she went straight to file for
divorce..
She’d planned to divorce all along.
Xander released his grip, staring again at the divorce date on the certificate.
Exactly that day.
This wasn’t about the kidnapping incident–she’d made up her mind a month earlier.
But divorce required his signature…
Abruptly, he remembered.
That day, Caitlin suddenly visited his office, asking him to sign a property transfer agreement.
So it wasn’t a property transfer.
It was divorce papers!!
Had she known everything back then?
The realization pierced Xander’s heart, his blood running cold.
Eleanor was overjoyed.
Chapter 14
She had always believed Xander no longer had romantic feelings for
Caitlin, and the only reason he hadn’t divorced her yet was out of respect for their years as spouses.
So when she saw that divorce certificate, she couldn’t contain how thrilled she was, her mind filled with visions of the glamorous and luxurious life she would lead as Mrs. Jackson.
Now, all she needed was Xander’s approval.
She was just about to test the waters when Xander’s phone rang.
It was a call from the security company.
The investigation had yielded results.
Xander snapped back to attention, shot a sharp glance at Eleanor, and walked to the balcony to answer.
“Speak!!”
“We’ve uncovered Eleanor’s activities. She’s indeed been involved in shady dealings, making multiple transactions with local thugs this past month, all targeting Caitlin.”
Hearing this, Xander clenched his fist.
He probably guessed a bit, but still couldn’t figure out what exactly she’d done, so he asked directly: “What deal did they make? Spell it out clearly.”
“The first time, she used your name to have people force Caitlin to drink. 99 bottles of hard liquor and nearly attempted rape.”
“The second time, she hired a private investigator to take photos of you together, then bribed staff to expose all those photos at the Jackson

Group’s annual gala while simultaneously leaking them to the media.”
“The third time, she sold Kenneth’s company research data to his competitors for huge profits.”
“The fourth time, she bribed inmates and guards at the detention center to lock Caitlin in the same cell with homosexual inmates, torturing her for three days.”
“The fifth time, she contacted Kenneth and planned that kidnapping, promising to help him get the money and escape.”
The sixth time, she bribed the hospital doctor to diagnose herself with burns requiring skin grafts. During the surgery, she denied Caitlin anesthesia and forcibly cut skin from her body.
Each incident was horrifying.
Xander trembled, his face as pale as paper, his eyes bloodshot with fury – as if he’d personally witnessed Caitlin’s torment.
Eleanor, you’ve really outdone yourself!
