Chapter 4
He kept saying he was “torn” between me and Seraphine, never knowing who to choose.
But everything he did screamed otherwise–he’d always choose Seraphine.
On our wedding day, he left me standing there to comfort Seraphine after a fight with her mate.
On our anniversary, he abandoned me to keep Seraphine company because she was afraid of thunder.[]
On my birthday, he ran off to celebrate Seraphine’s promotion and raise.]
Every holiday, he’d buy gifts in pairs–one for me, one for Seraphine–playing this ridiculous game of “fairness.”
I complained plenty. He’d always promise it wouldn’t happen again, but come next time, he’d make the same mistakes. When I spoke
too much, he’d accuse me of being petty and small–minded.[]

Looking back, the happiest moment I had with him was the day he proposed.
That day was full of surprises. The proposal took place in West City, four thousand meters above sea level, where the stars felt close enough to touch.
Under that starlit sky, he slipped a sparkling ring onto my finger, his eyes burning with sincerity, his vows tender and passionate.[]
That was the most serious he’d ever been with me–a proposal he’d planned for so long, a ceremony meant for just the two of us.[]
When Cassian saw I hadn’t replied to his message, he called me directly.
“Seraphine, I’ve already booked a restaurant. Everyone’s going to apologize to you together. Stop making a scene.“]]
I replied coolly, “Is Seraphine coming?“]
“Yes.”
“Fine. Pick me up tomorrow then.“]
If he wanted to apologize, how could he apologize to just me?]
When Cassian came to get me, Seraphine was already in the passenger seat. She smiled at me apologetically. “Sorry, Lyra. I get carsick, so I have to sit in front.“]
I smiled back. “It’s fine.”
If this were the old me, I would’ve felt hurt. But now, no matter what outrageous things Cassian and she did, I wouldn’t get angry
anymore.
What’s interesting is that whenever it was Cassian’s car, the passenger seat always had to be hers.[]
But when riding in other people’s cars, she never claimed to get carsick or demanded the front seat.[]
By the time we arrived at the restaurant, Cassian’s buddies were already seated, waiting for just the three of us.[]
Rurik was the first to approach me, pulling me to sit beside him. “Come on, Lyra, sit next to me. I’ll give you a proper apology in a bit.“]
Chapter 4
His tone carried no hint of genuine remorse–if anything, it sounded almost threatening.
After everyone was seated, Rurik poured me a drink, saying he’d punish himself with a shot. He raised his glass, drained it in one gulp, then began his apology.[]
“Lyra, I speak without thinking–you know that. Truth is, I’ve never thought much of you. I don’t think you’re good enough for Alpha.]
“But there’s nothing I can do–Alpha still wants to be with you, so today I’m doing this for him.“]
“I’m giving you a sincere apology.”
He poured another drink and raised it toward me. “I’ll punish myself with another shot. I was out of line that day. I’m sorry.“]
As soon as he finished, Cassian’s other buddies chimed in with their own half–hearted “sorrys.“[]
Seeing the atmosphere ease up, Cassian quickly tried to smooth things over, urging everyone to start eating.[]
But Seraphine wasn’t done. She stood up with a glass of juice and looked at me sweetly.
“Lyra, I owe you an apology too. Cassian cares about me so deeply… I know that’s made you feel wronged.“[]
Cassian immediately pulled her back down. “You did nothing wrong. You don’t need to apologize.“[]
Then Cassian looked at me seriously and said, “I’m sorry. It’s my fault for not handling this relationship properly.“[]
“It’s fine,” I said. “But there’s someone else who’d like to hear you two apologize to him too.“[]
The moment I finished speaking, the door swung open.]
A man in a tailored suit walked in.[]
