Chapter 5
“Honey, what are you doing here?“]
Seraphine stared at the man in shock.]
“I invited him,” I said. “You want to apologize, don’t you? Then let’s talk about what you’ve been doing behind your mate’s back.“[]
“Lyra, what the hell is wrong with you?“]
I ignored Cassian’s furious outburst and pulled the man over to face Seraphine and Cassian.]
“You two want to apologize, right? What’s the point of just apologizing to me? Now that Seraphine’s mate is here too…“]
“Why don’t you both explain your little seed donor arrangement? With her ex–lover, no less.“]
Seraphine and Cassian’s faces went white.[]
Thorne’s fists were clenched tight, barely containing his rage. Just as Seraphine frantically tried to explain, he slapped her across the face.
“Was lying to me fun? This is what you meant by artificial insemination–having a baby with your first love?“[]
Faced with Thorne’s fury, Cassian quickly pulled Seraphine behind him, looking at her mate with guilt.[]
“Thorne, I’m sorry. This is on me. I shouldn’t have agreed to help her. You want to hit someone? Hit me. Leave her out of it.“[]
Thorne let out a bitter laugh. “What, screwing her for years wasn’t enough? Now you want me to raise your kid too?“]
Cassian scrambled to defend himself.]
“Nothing happened between us, Thorne. She didn’t cheat.“]
I crossed my arms, watching this circus with amusement. In the twisted minds of Cassian and Seraphine, apparently it wasn’t cheating as long as they didn’t sleep together.]
But Thorne wasn’t like me–he wasn’t going to swallow this. He gritted his teeth and punched Cassian in the face.
“Didn’t cheat? Who’s she calling during thunderstorms? Who does she run to after our fights? You’re practically her second mate.“[]
Seeing Cassian get hit, Seraphine rushed forward and slapped Thorne back, screaming, “Don’t you dare hit him! It’s not his fault you’re the one who can’t have kids!“]
Thorne’s eyes blazed red with rage.
“You couldn’t find anyone else? Had to pick him just to rub it in my face?“[]
“Why would I want some stranger’s seed? I want it from the man I love.”
I stood there smirking. Finally, she’d said it.]
That confession sent Thorne over the edge.
Chapter 5
He swung his fist, connecting hard with Cassian’s face. Seeing a full brawl about to break out, I quickly headed for the door and slipped out.
Soon, the sounds of cursing and chairs crashing echoed from the private room.]
Lucky for me, one of my clients happened to know Thorne. He’d posted photos with the couple on Wolfgram before–otherwise I never could’ve orchestrated this little show.
I’d barely gotten home when the police called, asking me to come in for a statement.[]
At the station, Cassian and his buddies all had bruises on their faces. When Cassian saw me, his eyes burned with murderous rage, like he wanted to tear me apart.]
Rurik quickly held him back, then shot me a warning look.[]
I smirked dismissively and followed the officer into the interview room.
By the time I finished my statement, it was 1 AM. Word was that Seraphine had been so traumatized she was showing signs of miscarriage and had been rushed to the hospital.[]
Cassian and the others were detained.[]
I saw Cassian again a week later when he asked me to meet him to handle the divorce paperwork.[]
But instead, he drove to the villa where we used to live together. I looked at him suspiciously. “What’s this about?”
His face was stone cold. “Want a divorce? Go kneel and apologize to Seraphine first.“[]
