Chapter 21
Truthfully, I wasn’t confident.
After all, the police call was a bluff – technology wasn’t advanced enough for automatic emergency shortcuts back then.
Even if I called the police, there’s no surveillance here, and I have no injuries on me.
There’s simply no evidence to convict them.
Just then, a little girl appeared behind me: “Don’t be afraid, sister. I’ve called the police for you.”
She looked about thirteen or fourteen, with a sweet smile. Carrying a backpack, she had a lollipop in her mouth.
I froze in surprise: “Thank you, little sister.‘
She waved her hand dismissively at me. Even facing seven or eight thugs with dyed hair, her round eyes showed not a hint of fear.
Yet when Victoria saw her, it was as if she were facing a formidable enemy. Her whole body tensed, and her breathing became erratic.
“You… how are you here?”
The little girl sneered: “What, sis, you don’t want me here?”
“But rather than worrying about me being here, you’d better think about how to explain this to Mom and Dad.”

Slowly walking toward me, she pulled a lychee–flavored lollipop from her backpack: “Don’t be scared, sister.”
Her long eyelashes fluttered, and her smile looked adorable.
But for some reason, I found it strangely unsettling.
I took the lollipop from her hand as she introduced herself: “Miss, you’re so beautiful.”
“My name is Emily Reynolds Johnson, what’s yours?”
I forced a stiff smile: “Elizabeth.”
Just then, police sirens blared, scattering the gang of punks with bleached hair.
When Victoria tried to flee, Emily Johnson blocked her path: “Sister, where do you think you’re going?”
Her porcelain face wore an innocent, harmless smile.
“I happen to be a witness,” she declared, raising her recording phone.
“And I’ve got proof too!”
Victoria’s expression instantly darkened as she hissed coldly: “Emily Johnson, are you fucking insane? I’m your sister! Why sabotage me like this?”
But Emily just smiled and linked arms with me.
“Elizabeth, can you help me decide if what Victoria said is right?”

Chapter 21
“Before I was born, Victoria was adopted by my parents from an orphanage.”
“After my parents had me, she tried to drown me in a pond when no one was around. If I weren’t so lucky, I’d be dead.”
“My parents felt attached to you and raised you, but they never thought you’d be such an ungrateful wretch!”
“Did you think that if I died, my parents would love you?”
Just then, a police officer rushed over and asked, “Who called the police? What happened?”
Emily held up her phone and handed it to the officer: “Officer, listen to this and you’ll understand everything.”
The police took us to the station.
When David Reynolds Smith came to pick up Victoria, he immediately slapped her hard across the face.
“Are you insane? We’ve raised you with the finest food and care, yet you’ve turned into such an ungrateful wretch. Are you determined to drag the whole family down with you?”
“If it weren’t for your sister today, you’d have gone down a path of no return!”
Emily Johnson stood to the side, tears welling in her eyes as she grabbed David Smith’s hand.
“Dad, don’t blame sister anymore. She just wanted to marry into a

wealthy family, that’s why she resorted to unscrupulous means!”
Hearing this, David Smith’s expression darkened further.
“Victoria! How could I have a daughter like you! My biggest mistake was adopting you.”
