Chapter 3
Half a month later, Benjamin stormed into my dorm room one afternoon.
He knocked over my cream of mushroom soup. Scalding liquid splashed across my instep, making me wince in pain.
Acting oblivious, Benjamin pinned me against the wall by the neck.
“Sophia! How could you be so vicious?”
Struggling to breathe, I choked out, “I don’t know what you’re-”
Without another word, he dragged me by the throat toward his Jeep.
The car drove all the way to the backwoods, and I was almost pushed
out.
Benjamin looked down at me, his voice icy cold.
“Do you understand what I’m saying now?”
“Not only did you teach the kids to insult the baby in Emily’s belly as a fatherless child, but you also pushed Emily down the hill and hired thugs to defile her. When did your heart turn so black!”
I shook my head in denial, “I didn’t…”
Emily, who arrived late, tugged at his sleeve with tearful eyes, “Benjamin, don’t argue with Sophia for my sake. Sophia said she didn’t do it, and I believe her.”
Benjamin comforted her softly, “With me here, you don’t have to be so

kind.”
Then he snatched the note from her hand and threw it at me, saying angrily, “The witnesses and evidence are all here, and you still dare to deny it!”
I glanced at the note, which read: Sophia, I’m so happy you invited me to meet at the backwoods. This is a scarf I knitted myself, I hope you won’t mind…
I understood clearly and looked Benjamin straight in the eyes. “Can’t you see this is framing?”
Emily cried even harder. “Benjamin, forget it. It’s all my fault.”
“Please stop investigating. I’m just a lowly single mother–I can’t bear another false accusation.”
Benjamin snorted coldly, his gaze icy as it swept over me.
“Framing? If I hadn’t been surveying near the foothills, Emily would’ve been assaulted!”
“Look at her wounds! A pregnant woman–you think she’d roll down a mountain, hire thugs, and risk her baby’s life to frame you?”
I smirked. “Risky move, but effective.”
“A few insults, some bruises–and you fell for it.”
Furious, Benjamin grabbed me and shoved me down hard.
I tumbled down the hillside, sharp rocks cutting into my skin.

much.”
“Emily’s child has a father–me!”
“Tomorrow, Emily and I will marry to give my child legitimacy.”
“We’ll divorce in a year before marrying you.”
“This year is your punishment for jealousy.”
Heart–wrenching pain spread through my body. I weakly cried for help, but no one came.
A long time passed.
Clenching my teeth against the agony, I crawled up the slope inch by inch.
Just as I reached the top, hands shoved me down again.
“Double lessons strike deepest.”
“Reflect down there. Return only when you admit your wrongs.”
The Jeep sped away, leaving me covered in wounds across the empty backwoods.
I struggled upward in agony when a hand suddenly grabbed my waist. Turning, I saw an unfamiliar man.
