Chapter 5

Under everyone’s watchful eyes, I grabbed Conan’s and Mindy’s hands and intertwined their fingers together.
Then, smiling widely at them both like I was the wedding officiant, I said, “True love is not a sin. If you both truly love each other, then I’m the one who’s the third wheel after all.
“But don’t worry. I’m giving both of you my blessings. Just pick a date and let all of us know, alright? I’m looking forward to your wedding reception soon.”
After that, I strolled out of their private room, my feet light and skipping, but Conan immediately came running after me.
I had never seen his face as pale and ghost–like as it was now.
“Ingrid, wait. I can explain. Listen to me first, okay?”
I looked at him, perplexed. “It’s fine if you get together with Mindy. Why would you need to explain yourself?”
“I’m not together with her! I know that the tattoo made you misunderstand some things, but I can tell you that I only got that tattoo because I lost a bet I made with Ian and the others. It has no meaning whatsoever! I can even get it lasered off tomorrow!
“Ingrid, we’ve been together for so many years. Aren’t you going to trust me this one time?”
Conan was speaking in such a high, panicked tone that a number of onlookers slowed down to stare at us.
A flash of disgust appeared in my eyes.
“Conan Grande, can you stop being so emotional? Whatever it is, I’m sure we can continue the conversation at home after I’m done seeing my friends.”
The last time I caught Conan accompanying Mindy at the hospital and looking after her the entire day, I had made a huge fuss in public like a deranged woman. He had then said the same exact words to dismiss me before leaving.
Now that the tables had turned, this was the first time I’d seen such shock and hurt written plainly in his eyes.
I didn’t care about the look of disappointment in his back.

Then, he sent a few more messages reminding me not to consume alcohol, and even if I wanted to, I was only allowed a glass or two. He then told me that he’d prepared my allergy meds and that I could go over to him for them if I felt any discomfort.

I was just pulling his leg.
So, to prove myself, I put him on speakerphone so that Andy Kingston, a college senior who’d offered to send me home, could greet Conan.
Conan had never met Andy before, but he knew that I used to be quite close to him and days.

I couldn’t see Conan’s facial expression through the phone call, but I could tell from his increasingly loud breathing that he was on the verge of exploding.
I wanted to avoid getting into an unnecessary verbal fight, so I hung up on him after that.
I never went home that day. Instead, I went over to Eva’s place for the night. It had been a long while since the last time we had a sleepover while exchanging juicy gossip with each other.
It was 12:00 pm the next day, and I finally realized that I had forgotten to charge my phone overnight. As soon as I got my phone powered up, the first thing I received was a call from Conan.
I also noticed the two dozen or so missed calls from him all night.
I massaged my temples and answered his call in resignation.

Chapter 5
“Where are you, Ingrid?”
This was the first time I’d heard Conan sound so hoarse.
I shut my eyes and smirked coldly.
“It’s Friday today. Where else would I be if not at work?”
