Chapter 14 The Quiet Takeover
Seryna saw the panic on Tehila’s face and knew she’d hit the
mark.

Then Seryna’s smile faded. She hated herself for being such a
fool in her last life. If she’d stopped chasing her family’s love,
maybe her three brothers wouldn’t have had the chance to beat
her to death.
Now, with just a little pushback, Tehila gave in.
But Seryna knew how vile she was. The setup wouldn’t end
here.
Tonight, Jeremiah would come home and punish Seryna.
But after dying once, she had less to fear than Tehila.
This time, she’d make sure every one of them died at the hands
of their beloved Tehila.
Seryna’s eyes grew colder and sharper.
That stare sent a chill down Tehila’s spine.
“Damn it. I let some country girl spook me? No way. Just my

head messing with me,” she told herself.
Seryna spoke up, her voice cool. “Tehila, you’re so fake.”
“You-“Tehila napped, scowling.
Seryna walked off without a glance back.
Tehila stared after her, seething. She couldn’t wait for Jeremiah
to get home. He adored her most and would help her get rid of
Seryna.
She grabbed her phone and started typing fast, telling him what
had happened today. She was determined to make the whole
family see Seryna as the enemy.
Seryna knew Jeremiah was coming back, but she wouldn’t be
around. She was headed to her grandmother’s place to start
training with a new etiquette coach.
She moved in with Devona and stayed. In a month, she’d
learned so much.
Seryna grew up in an orphanage, but still managed top grades.
She moved from one teacher to the next.
There was always more to learn, and she soaked it all up.

Every night, she shared what she’d picked up with Rashad.
He was thrilled, watching her turn into a refined lady.
Seryna knew Rashad wouldn’t care about anyone who wasn’t
useful to him.
Downstairs, Devona sat in the living room, poised and elegant in
a rose–red gown.
Next to her stood her assistant, Natalie Carman, who’d been by
her side for over two decades. She glanced at Seryna, still deep
in study, and let out a soft chuckle. “She’s just like you, Madam.
You picked things up quick, too, back in the day.“”
Natalie watched Seryna work hard over the past month,
growing from rough edges to refined elegance.
Devona sighed. “She reminds me even more of her grandma on.
her mom’s side.”
Then she turned to Natalie. “It’s been a month. Take her
shopping. I heard Calbert’s back in the country, getting invited
to all the big events. From here on, she’s under your wing.”
Natalie realized that Devona was passing the torch. Seryna was
her successor, and marrying Calbert was part of the plan.

It wouldn’t be easy because others in the Willard family had.
their eyes on Devona’s company.
Natalie walked over with a warm smile. “Ms. Willard, your
grandma asks you to take a break. You’ve been working
nonstop. Let me take you out and get a few nice gowns. Events
are coming up, and you’re coming with me. I’ll introduce you to
the right crowd, help you ease in.”
Seryna set her materials aside and looked up. Feeling
recognized, she gave a graceful smile. “Then I’ll follow your lead.
Thank you, Natalie.”
