Before I could speak, comments flooded my vision:
“Not complaining? What kind of trash bag are you to contain so much garbage!”
“Where was she when you were flirting with Jessica? Now you’re playing the victim? Disgusting!”
“I’ll pay $500 for someone to slap this jerk!”
“Girl, don’t be blinded by love! Expose his true face! I need this satisfaction today!”
Even without the comments‘ reminder, I wouldn’t hold back.
I opened my phone’s gallery: “Thomas had a girlfriend in high school.”

In the gallery was a photo of Thomas hugging Jessica, their faces pressed together, both smiling brightly.
My parents‘ expressions changed.
Thomas was stunned for a moment, then quickly explained: “We broke up! It was just silly high school stuff, peer pressure made us date! We broke up right after graduation!”
He looked at me tenderly: “Mia, you’re the one I love, the one I want to spend my life with!”
“So that’s why you’ve been upset with me? I’ll apologize, okay? I’m sorry I hurt you.”

My parents‘ expressions softened considerably.
“Thomas, just this once. Don’t make Mia sad again.”
“If this happens again, we won’t take your side.”
The comments couldn’t stand it:
“What? Did her parents get brainwashed by him? He hid this for almost four years and they forgive him so easily?”
“Don’t you all see how the main girl looks! She’s being used as a replacement!!!”
Actually, Jessica and I only had similar eyes. Our mannerisms and aura were very different.
I don’t know what Thomas’s problem is, insisting on treating me as Jessica’s replacement.
I said to Thomas in disgust: “Jessica just went to school in another state, she didn’t go abroad or vanish. You can find her anytime.”
“I’m not interested in being part of your game.”
I declared again: “I like Nathan James. This isn’t about being upset or trying to make Thomas jealous. Mom, Dad, please respect my feelings.”
