Chapter 8
“What’s going on?”
I quickly spoke up, “Alpha Zane, I’m here today to tell you that Sebastian and 1 have broken the mate bond.”
“He already has someone he loves, and now he has a child.”
Alpha Zane immediately exploded with rage, grabbing something nearby and threatening to throw it at Sebastian,
“You brat! How dare you betray Harper!”
I stopped him, holding onto whatever he was about to throw.
“Alpha Zane, Sebastian and I have talked things through. He’s with a she–wolf he loves, and they have a child. I don’t like him anymore.”
“So I rejected him, and we broke the mate band.”
Π
Sebastian hadn’t said anything yet. He just kept looking at me.
In the end, Alpha Zane sighed heavily. “Well… I’m sorry you’ve been hurt, Harper.”
Sebastian will regret this, missing out on a good girl like you.
Sebastian immediately responded, “I won’t regret it.
After talking things through with Alpha Zane, I went to the room Tused to stay in to collect my things.
As I finished gathering my things, I ran into Emery.
She was wearing a thick down jacket and furry pants today.
Her gaze toward me no longer held any hostility.
She stepped closer to me, holding out her hand, and in her palm was a necklace.
“I heard you asked Sebastian for this necklace last time,” she said with a soft smile.
“He didn’t want to give it to you, so I took it and brought it to you ”
I was surprised. She smiled again. “Harper, you’re really such a good person. You’ve touched me.”
“Honestly, I didn’t get with Sebastian because I liked him. I just wanted the money. Once I got it, I planned to go see the world.”
“You helped me, so I’ll repay you.”
I took the necklace from her. “You’re a good person, too.”
I placed the necklace into my bag and, after saying goodbye to Alpha Zane, was about to leave when I bumped into Sebastian in the garden.
He was watering some plants, but all of them were wi
withered.
When he saw me, he stopped his movements.
“Do you remember this place? You once told me you wanted roses planted here.”
“Harper, if you’re not in a hurry, you could come to my and Emery’s mating ceremony.”
I found his words strange, disconnected from what had been said before.
I pulled out my phone to check the time. “I already booked my flight. I’m not coming back after this.”
With that, I paused for a moment, then added, “I don’t like roses anymore.”

I had liked roses because of him.
I realized he loved them, so I changed my own preferences to match his.
It would be a lie if I said I didn’t hate Sebastian.
I waited for him for three years, and the result was him being with someone else.
I only hated him because he made promises to me and broke them. So, before leaving. I couldn’t bring myself to say, “I hope you’ll be happy.”
I rejoined the healer team, a process that had taken me three months to complete.
This time, I was heading to a small town on the Northern Border to provide medical support.
Just as I was about to leave, I ran into someone familiar.
was Maddox, a werewolf I had trained with to become a healer.
He was
He was wearing a black windbreaker and a black baseball cap, walking toward me.
“It’s been a while, Harper.”
I remembered when we first met outside the training grounds at a café.
He had been holding a kitten, his eyes red from crying
I asked him what was wrong, but he wouldn’t say. Finally, I thought he was crying because he had lost the kitten, so I gave him another cat as a gift.
