Chapter 10
I cried out in heart–wrenching sobs, and Maddox held me tightly.
He whispered in my ear, “Don’t cry, I’m here”
“I’ll always be here for you.”
Suddenly, I pushed him away and asked, “Do you like me?”
He froze for a moment, then nodded, “Yes”
“Then let’s be together.”
In this war–torn border, I was afraid that his feelings might go unspoken. I didn’t want either of us to have regrets, especially since 1 had never really been in a relationship before.
Hearing my words, he was overwhelmed with emotion and pulled me into another embrace
Just then, we were called to treat more injured people. We wiped away our tears and separated to tend to different casualties.
In the midst of this constant busyness, I forgot about Sebastian and everything else. All that mattered was saving whoever I could.
Finally, we got a brief moment of relief.
The other healers gathered some fresh flowers for me and Madd
me and Maddox, saying they wanted to hold a small mating ceremony for us.
Because they told us, “We’re going to more dangerous places soon, and we don’t want either of you to have regrets.”
So, in front of the countless injured and fellow healers, Maddox and I held a simple ceremony.
He kissed me, marked me, and then whispered, “Harper, I’ll always love you.”
The other healers took pictures of us, and I posted one online. I also gave Maddox the necklace I had once cherished, hoping it would keep him safe.
Just th
then, I received a call from my friend Kaia.
She said, “I have something funny to tell you.”
“On the day Sebastian and Emery sealed the mate bond, neither of them showed up.
“Emery stole Sebastian’s money and ran off to another pack, and Sebastian Jeft the South.”
“I’m dying of laughter. This is the weirdest ceremony I’ve ever heard of.”
I just listened, then replied, “Kaia, cherish your time and the people around you.”
Maddox and I continued our work.
Since the ceremony, I barely saw him

Sebastian
He had actually come here.
I didn’t know how he had gotten there, but when I saw him, I just told him to leave.
Because I didn’t want to see him, didn’t want him disturbing the life I had now.
Eut he extended his hand toward me. “You stole my necklace. Give it back.” Chapter 10

“Give it back to me, now.
“The necklace doesn’t belong to you anymore.”
Just as I said that, a new casualty was brought in.
I hurried to treat the injured, with Sebastian standing by and watching. In my panic, I yelled at him, “Go get the hemostatic tools, hurry!”
Once things calmed down, I led Sebastian to a relatively safe spot.
He looked at me, and to my surprise, there was admiration in his eyes.
“Harper, you’ve really grown up. You’re not depending on me anymore.
“I saw how you treated the injured just now. You were incredible.”
“Looks like sending you to become a healer was the right choice after all.”
“Sebastian, do you think this is your doing?”
