Sylvie learned to be obedient on the twenty–seventh day of her captivity.
She no longer resisted, no longer went on hunger strikes, and even occasionally smiled at Alaric.
At first, Alaric was cautious, but gradually, he began to believe that she might have truly accepted her fate.
“What do you want to eat today?” Alaric asked her, tying his tie in the early morning.
Sylvie leaned against the head of the bed, her long hair falling on her shoulders, and said calmly, “You did it.”
Alaric paused for a moment, a hint of surprise flashing in his eyes, then he smiled and said, “Okay.”
He turned around and went to the kitchen, his back rarely relaxed.
Sylvie watched as his figure disappeared at the doorway, then
immediately lifted the covers and pulled out a mini computer from under the mattress – it was the one she had stolen from Alaric’s study last week.

She quickly typed in the code, her fingertips flying across the keyboard.
The security system of the island was quietly invaded by her, and an encrypted distress signal was sent out.
Three days later, late at night.
Sylvie stood at the edge of the cliff, with the sea wind howling and blowing her skirt rustling.

Rapid footsteps could be heard behind him, and Hershel arrived with his
men.
“Syl!” he rushed over, his face pale, “Come with me!”
Sylvie turned back to look at the bodyguard chasing after her and suddenly smiled, “Hershel, are you afraid of heights?”
Hershel hadn’t even realized it yet, but Sylvie had already dragged him off
the cliff.
Below were the surging waves, but on the cliff there was the foothold she had already surveyed.
The bodyguards dared not act rashly, they could only watch as they disappeared into the darkness.
The waves crashed against the rocks, leaving Sylvie and Hershel soaking wet as they struggled to climb onto the shore.
“Run!” Hershel pulled her towards the speedboat.
Just then, a dazzling light shone over.
Alaric stood on the shore, with dozens of bodyguards behind him.
“Have you run enough?” he asked in a cold voice.
Sylvie shielded Hershel behind her: “Alaric, let him go.”
Alaric stared at her and suddenly smiled, “Okay.”
“But you had to stay.
Sylvie was about to speak when suddenly there was a loud noise from above the cliff.

A huge rock loosened and fell towards her and Hershel!
“Be careful!”
Alaric rushed over and pushed them aside.
A giant rock smashed onto his leg, instantly dyeing the seawater red with blood.
Sylvie was knocked down by a huge impact and hit the back of her head heavily on the reef.
Her vision darkened, but she forced her eyes open to see Alaric lying pale–faced in a pool of blood, still staring intently in her direction.
“Syl, do you have anything?”
Sylvie opened her mouth, everything went black before her eyes, and she fainted.
Before losing consciousness, she heard herself say, “Alaric… let me go.”
When Alaric woke up, the first thing he felt was numbness in his legs.
The doctor stood by the bed, speaking in a low voice: “Mr. Savrelle, your spinal nerves have been damaged, and the function of your lower limbs may…”
He didn’t finish speaking, but the meaning was already very
clear.
The assistant’s eyes welled up with tears. “I’ll go tell Ms. Ainsley! If she knew you were trying to save her…”
“Shut up,” Alaric interrupted coldly, “No one is allowed to speak.”
He turned his head to look out the window, the sunlight stabbing at his
eyes.

He remembered the last scene before he lost consciousness.

Sylvie lay on the ground not far away, her face pale, but still managing to say to him, “Alaric… let me go.”
At that moment, he suddenly understood what “unbearable pain” meant.
There were some mistakes, and making one mistake could really lead to losing your loved one forever.
One month later.
Alaric sat in his wheelchair, watching the news on TV.
“The president of the Garrow Group, Hershel, married Mrs. Ainsley today…”
In the scene, Sylvie was wearing a wedding dress, with a bright smile on her face.
She had also smiled at him like that before.
Before he started showing favoritism towards Clarisse time and time again.
Before he had sent her to the detention center.
Before he had driven her to the point of burning down the villa.
Alaric turned off the TV, silently wheeled himself to the study.
There was a document on the table, just delivered by the assistant.
He opened it and inside was Sylvie’s life trajectory for the past month.
She and Hershel went to Venice and kissed under the Bridge of Sighs.
She accompanied Hershel to the business banquet, linking her arm with

his and smiling gently.
She even started learning to cook because Hershel had a bad stomach.
Alaric looked at the photos and suddenly smiled.
He used to have all her love, but he himself shattered it.
Now, she has given all her tenderness to someone else.
He went to the burnt villa alone.
In the ruins, he lit a cigarette and stared at the charred walls.
The phone suddenly rang.
“Hello, this is Cartier Customization Center,” the person politely asked. “The men’s wedding ring customized by Ms. Ainsley has been completed. She left your contact information as the recipient. Have the two of you already had the wedding?”
Alaric’s finger trembled, and the ash from his cigarette fell onto his pants, burning a hole.
She had once thought about marrying him…
When he still had all her love.
Before he made any mistakes.
His chest suddenly ached so much that it felt like his heart was being torn apart. He bent over, gasping for breath.
“Sir?” asked the passing neighbor curiously, “This house is all burned down, were you waiting for someone?”
Alaric lifted his head, the sunlight shining on his pale face.

“Yes,” he said softly, “waiting for someone.”
But he knew that he wouldn’t wait any longer.
The sun was shining outside the window, but no one would ever burst in again, arrogantly shouting at him:
“Alaric!”
