“You’re old enough now. If you want, we can get married right away. If you’d rather wait…”

I did not have the patience to hear anymore, so I cut him off.

Luca’s jaw tightened, and his eyes turned dark.

“So now that you are grown, you want to leave me?”
I looked up at him sharply, but before I could answer, he shoved me back against the wall.

I curled my lips in a cold smile. Forget? How could I?
“Didn’t enjoy slapping me last time? Are you trying to hit me again now?”
I stared at him without backing down an inch.
Luca’s chest heaved with anger. This whole time, I had always been the obedient one.
Now, looking at me like this, so stubborn and cold, it almost made him dizzy with rage.
He slapped himself across the face.

As he said it, he grabbed my hand and forced it to slap him in the face.
The slap was so hard that my palm went numb.
I glanced at the small crowd starting to gather, then yanked my hand
away.
“Pull yourself together! Don’t come looking for me again, I’ve already made myself clear!”
Luca still tried to follow me, but just then, a car pulled up in front of me.
I immediately recognized Simon and got in without thinking twice.

Watching Luca’s figure shrink smaller and smaller in the side mirror, I finally let out a quiet sigh of relief.
Simon glanced over and handed me a bottle of water.
“You okay?”
I took it and nodded. “I’m fine. Thanks.‘
“How’d the exam go?”
I thought about it for a second. “Pretty good!”

I laughed. “Of course. No problem.
It was only right to treat him as he had helped me so much these past six
months.
No matter how many questions I asked, he never got annoyed and always explained things patiently.
So, I spent a long, nerve–wracking winter at home waiting for the results.
And in the new year, the good news finally came.
I passed!

I called him the second I got the news, and the moment he answered, his. calm voice came through.
