Chapter 9
I’ve been holed up in the hotel for three days.[]
Pulled out my SIM card, deleted every social media app off my phone.[]
I spent three days lying around with no purpose.[]
When I finally dragged myself out of that hotel room, my eyes felt like they couldn’t even focus anymore.[]
I called a uber and had them take me to Zethar’s house.[]
The front grounds were trashed–torn red fabric everywhere, and someone had ripped down all the mating ceremony decorations, leaving them crumpled on the grass.
The house was completely empty, with clear signs of an Alpha rage–fit throughout.]
Furniture was overturned, shattered glass covered the marble floors.
Zethar had definitely

I tiptoed upstairs and started gathering my things.]

Coming down the stairs with my bag, I made eye contact with Zethar, who was flat on his back in the middle of the foyer.

A cigar dangled from his fingers–he took a drag, then ground it out right on the expensive hardwood.[
That gorgeous, sharp face was half–hidden in cigarette smoke, giving him this beautiful, broken look.[]
My breath caught, and I tried to move faster down those stairs.
“Don’t leave…“[]
His voice was all gravelly as I stepped around him.]
I kept walking.
“I said don’t fucking leave!“]
He exploded upward, catching me in two long strides.
He kicked my suitcase clear across the room and grabbed my shoulder, turning me to face him.[]
Then, he kissed me with the pressure of an Alpha.[]
The nasty taste of whiskey and cigars invaded my mouth, and I started thrashing against him.[]

Nothing worked–It was Alpha strength.

While my head was still spinning, he shrugged off his jacket and pressed me.[]
His face was flushed from all the drinking.Those pale fingers wiped at my tears.
Voice all rough“Laura, what Alpha doesn’t have side pieces? I’m not some monk.[]
You didn’t need to blow this whole thing up, trash our mating, destroy everything we built.[]
Yeah, I said I can’t stick to just you in bed.[]

The second his full weight came down on me, I fought like my life depended on it.]

A guy’s voice echoed from downstairs.[]
It kept calling–definitely Vesper.]
“Yo, Zethar! Where the hell are you? Luna Rowena’s been calling me!”

Zethar frozed.
I used that split second to break free from under him and ran barefoot across the cold floor as fast as I could.[]
I slammed into Vesper in the doorway but didn’t stop running.[]
Down in the foyer, I looked back once.[]
Zethar wasn’t following, so I grabbed my suitcase and sprinted to my car.
