Marcus leaned in with a grin. “Kid’s got a crush on you.”
I waved him off. “Don’t be ridiculous. He just needed a job, and I needed help.”
Marcus pointed at Lucas’s designer shoes. “A guy wearing those doesn’t settle for flower shop
wages.”
This time, I only smiled faintly–and placed a hand on my stomach.
“Marcus… I don’t have the right to love anyone.”
He went quiet.
“You know,” he said, pouring another drink, “you haven’t mentioned Arthur once.”
“After your ‘death,‘ he spiraled for a month.”
