The living room suddenly erupted into chaos.
“How is it him?”

“Doesn’t Beatrice love George to death? How could she choose Nathaniel?”
“Yeah, there must be some mistake, right?”
George himself turned red in the face and hurriedly asked, “Grandpa, is there a mistake?”
Mr. Chapman Senior shot him a look: “I may be getting on in years this Christmas, but I’m neither deaf nor blind. How could I possibly make a mistake about something this important?”
Butler Ben picked up the thread: “The old master spoke crystal clear–Beatrice chose Nathaniel as her fiancé.”
George interrupted him: “Impossible. There must be a mistake.”
Then he turned to me with an expectant look: “Beatrice, there’s been a mistake, right? You chose me. Grandpa just saw wrong, didn’t he?”
I sneered: “I chose Nathaniel.”

Hearing my words, Nathaniel looked up in surprise. His eyes held a hint of disbelief.
George angrily grabbed my hand: “You like me–the whole city knows it. How could you possibly choose this sickly weakling! Grandpa must have made a mistake!”
Ben quickly pulled George away and barked at the Chapman family children who were buzzing with gossip: “Why are you all just standing there? Get him out of here!”
Only then did the Chapman family brothers snap out of it and drag George away. George still refused to accept what had happened, shouting at me: “Beatrice, say something! You made the mistake–you chose me!”
Grandpa waved his hand and impatiently had someone close the door. Only then did the surroundings quiet down.
Ben handed me another document envelope: “Beatrice, this is a token of the old master’s goodwill. He wishes you both all the best and a happy, fulfilling life together.”
Looking at the envelope, I knew exactly what was inside–Mr. Chapman Senior’s life’s work, the business empire he’d built over half a lifetime.
A bit later, the Mid–Autumn family banquet began. I looked around but never saw George anywhere.

Holding my wine glass, I turned around and bumped right into Nathaniel’s embrace. Catching the familiar scent of agarwood, my eyes instantly welled up with tears.
I remembered how in my past life, when George had switched. my medication and I was rushed to the hospital after being poisoned, Nathaniel had frantically begged the medical staff to save me. He’d punched George in the face, roaring: “I never should have let her marry you!”
After I died, he’d collected evidence of George’s crimes and sent him to prison. At the time, I was already a wandering ghost, yet I was shocked by his actions, unable to understand why he would go to such lengths for me.
But after my rebirth, one voice in my head rang particularly clear: “Marry him, and you won’t regret it.”
After the banquet began, Mr. Chapman Senior called Nathaniel to the main table. The meaning was crystal clear–Nathaniel was
now his successor.
Nathaniel didn’t act coy and graciously took his seat beside Grandpa.
Friends and relatives couldn’t help whispering among
themselves. Everyone had thought I was dead set on marrying George; no one had expected this turn of events. Besides, wasn’t
