Chapter 12
Blake felt dazed clutching his trophy. He’d gotten everything he wanted, yet his heart felt hollow.
The house was empty. Emily’s things remained untouched–he’d angrily driven away the movers she’d called that day. After he’d swallowed his pride, how could she be so heartless?
He’d cut ties with Madison and thrown himself into his career, determined to give Emily a better future.
Now he had fame and money, but happiness eluded him. The cheers and applause couldn’t fill the Emily–shaped void in his heart.
She was really angry this time–he needed to make things right. But her phone went straight to voicemail, and she’d scrubbed every trace of him from her social media.
He ran to her school, and classmates said she’d long since gone abroad as an exchange student.
Panic suddenly gripped him.
He told himself this was for her studies–he would have supported her if he’d known. But now insecurity consumed him, and he desperately needed to see Emily
This time he’d make things right, whatever it took. She’d forgive him–after all their years together, she was too soft–hearted not to.
He bought her favorite flowers and tracked down her address through great effort. After over 20 hours of flights and travel, he was exhausted but determined.
But thinking about seeing his girl made his heart flutter with anticipation, like the excitement of secretly holding hands in high school. They’d never been apart this long–he suddenly felt so insecure. He told himself they could never fight about breaking up again; he couldn’t live without her.
He secretly swore that once they made up, he’d immediately go public back home. He’d announce to the world that Emily was his!
Standing at the door, he knocked nervously for what felt like forever with no answer.
When the door finally opened, it wasn’t Emily he’d been longing to see- it was a tall man in casual clothes.
Blacke asked, “Who are you? Where’s Emily?”
The stranger had cold eyes behind glasses, clearly hostile. “She’s still sleeping.”
“What do you mean? Where’s Emily? I need to see her!” Blake panicked instantly.
Adrian curved his lips, coldly reminding, “Mr. Parker, she was exhausted last night. We slept very late–I’m afraid she doesn’t have the energy to see you.”
Blake was stunned, those words stabbing into his ears like thorns.
“EMILY! Come out, I need to see Emily!” he roared.
