Chapter 7
When I regained consciousness, a whole month had passed.
The first face I saw was Callum’s.
My memory was foggy–I’d almost forgotten what he looked like after all these years.
“Lily, you’re finally awake.”
He looked exhausted, but his dull eyes suddenly lit up when he saw me conscious.
“When I brought you in, the doctors said you were barely hanging on.”
My last memory was the kidnapper plunging that knife into me.
Honestly, I never thought I’d wake up again.
“During this month you’ve been out, Ethan and your mom have been searching everywhere for you.”
“I haven’t told them where you are. Some decisions should be yours to make.”
He reached out like he wanted to take my hand, then hesitated and pulled back.
The gesture reminded me of before.
Callum had always been this careful, like just following me around had taken all his courage.
When I married Ethan, he moved abroad without a fight.
He’d always respected my decisions, even when they broke his heart.
Seeing me silent now, Callum looked down at the floor like a scolded child, voice barely audible.
“If you want to change your mind about us…”
“I don’t.”
I cut him off, meeting his eyes with a slight smile.
“I’ll marry you, Callum. But first I need to divorce Ethan.”
Those words lit up Callum’s face like someone had just handed him the moon.
He nodded eagerly, suddenly looking like an awkward teenager not sure where to put his hands.
“Callum, is this unfair to you? Me saying yes now?”
Callum knew exactly what I meant.
That I’d waited seven years, only choosing him after Ethan revealed what a complete bastard he was.
He shook his head.
“I’ve waited for you all these years. Even if I couldn’t have you in this lifetime, I’d keep waiting–into the next life, and whatever comes after that.”
The look in his eyes was something I’d never seen from Ethan in seven years of marriage–pure, unfiltered love.

Chapter 7
After recovering at the hospital, I went to meet Callum’s parents at their home.
They weren’t thrilled about their son marrying a divorced woman.
But seeing how crazy Callum was about me, they eventually accepted his choice.
Once we set our wedding date, I decided it was time to return to my family’s home.
Back in the States, I saw missing person posters with my face everywhere.
When I walked through my family’s front door, our housekeeper nearly had a heart attack from shock before running to tell my mother the news.
I’d assumed that after I disappeared, they would have officially welcomed Olivia into the family.
After all, Mom always believed my existence was what forced Olivia to carry the “illegitimate daughter” label all these years.
“Lily, you’re finally back! Are you okay? Mom and I have been losing our minds trying to find you!”
Ethan grabbed me in a tight hug, his tears soaking my shirt. His whole body trembled against mine.
Just one month and he’d dropped at least twenty pounds.
Mom looked even worse–her hair completely white now, her once–proud posture bent like she’d aged twenty years.
When she saw me, she completely broke down, unable to form a sentence.
Just repeating through her tears: “You’re home. You’re really home.”
I felt absolutely nothing watching their little show. I pushed Ethan away and cut straight to the chase.
“Let’s go to the courthouse and make our divorce official.”
Then I turned to my mother.
“I’m filing a lawsuit over the company transfer. That was my father’s property. You illegally gave it to Olivia.”
“And I’m cutting all ties with you as my mother.”
I spoke clearly, but they froze like I’d started speaking another language.
“What did you just say? Lily, how DARE you speak to me like that!”
Mom’s voice shot up, staring at me like I’d grown a second head.
I ignored her completely and turned to Ethan, who looked like he was in a daze.
“I’m getting married. So let’s finalize this divorce ASAP.”
