I crashed at Kate’s place for two weeks straight.
During those days, Amber updated her Instagram religiously.
Jason featured in every single post.
[When the sky has the moon, I have my star.]
A perfectly staged selfie with Jason’s silhouette by the window in the background.
[My star shines forever, and I’ll always follow his light.]
This time: her hand flaunting a star ring next to Jason’s unmistakable fingers.

The picture: first–class cabin seats.
First–class cabin seats with Jason asleep beside her.
Each post sent Kate into a rage.
She stabbed at my phone screen, cursing:
“That manipulative bitch! Is Jason fucking blind? How can he not see what this snake is doing? Even a goddamn golden retriever would figure this shit
out!”
Kate was livid.
Meanwhile, I felt strangely calm.
I seemed to be emerging from withdrawal, watching Kate’s rage with detached composure.
“Jason knows exactly what she’s doing,” I said quietly.
“He knows?”
“Then what’s with all his ‘there’s nothing going on‘ bullshit?”
“In Jason’s world, no sex means no cheating. That’s his loophole.”
That was Jason’s line in the sand.
Which is why whenever I’d get upset, he’d always hit me with:
“There’s nothing between me and Amber. You’re just paranoid and toxic. Not everyone has your dirty mind.”
And I’d be left speechless.
Now, looking back at all this….
I finally felt free.
“The movers will be here soon,” I reminded Kate.

Chapter 3
The divorce was moving forward, and I needed my stuff.
Especially one thing-
My mother’s keepsakes.
“About time,” Kate said, waiting outside while I went in.
Jason was supposed to be out of town according to Amber’s latest posts.
I opened the door expecting emptiness but caught the unmistakable smell of food.
Amber sitting cross–legged at dining table, peeling jumbo shrimp.
She froze when she saw me, like a kid caught stealing cookies.
She jumped up immediately.
“Oh! Lily! Hi…”
I took in the scene–Amber wearing my pajamas and slippers.
Then Jason walked in with a plate, his smile dropping instantly.
“Have you…eaten yet?” he asked awkwardly.
I ignored him and headed for the bedroom.
What I saw stopped me cold.
My collectibles–scattered. Bed–trashed. Closet–ransacked.
And the safe in the back–wide open.
My heart clenched, rushed to check inside.
“Lily, I…” Amber hovered in the doorway.
The safe was empty.
Amber’s voice grew small:
“I’m so sorry… we lost our luggage on the way back. Jason said I could borrow something to wear…”
“I didn’t mean to…opened the safe…”
My ears buzzed as I turned to see fragments of jade in Amber’s hand.
I couldn’t breathe.
“Total accident, I swear.”
“Lily, please!”
Suddenly Amber threw herself down, actually kneeling in front of me, clutching my arm while sobbing.
“Please forgive me!”
