Chapter 9
“Holy SHIT!”
“Heard Amber’s the town bicycle–rides everyone! Figured Jason knew he was just next in line. Somebody finally had the guts to wake this man up.”
“Nuking his reputation at his own party? Cold–blooded. His business cred is toast.”
“Who’s taking bets on his new nickname? ‘Sloppy Seconds‘ or ‘Captain Cuckold“?”
Jason’s face darkened with each second.
Amber went ghost–white.
A perfect yin–yang of public humiliation.
Jason ripped open another package.
This one contained a recording–no video, but explosive enough.
Amber’s unmistakable voice:
“Jason’s completely whipped. Once we drive a wedge between him and Lily, we can swallow his company whole.”
“After that, I’ll make my mom accept you. Then we’ll get married.”
Her laugh cut through Jason like a knife to the heart.
“Yes, baby. Mrs. and Mr. happily–ever–after!”
The truth was brutally obvious.
Jason had been an orphanage.
At seven, he thought adoption
family. Instead, he’d walked into hell.
His “parents” treated him like a live–in servant
for their son.
Hungry, cold, and beaten whenever their precious son complained.
Later…
His adoptive family died in a crash.
Jason never mourned..
He felt nothing but sweet, blessed freedom.
He even laughed at their funeral.
Everyone called him ungrateful dog.
He shut down emotionally until he met me–a girl who knew what real love felt like.
I thawed his frozen heart, showed him connection was possible, and he chose me as his future.

Chapter 9
Then disaster struck.
Someone heard his adoptive parents had left him insurance money. They kidnapped him for ransom.
I saved him, survived a nightmare, then brushed off my trauma with a smile: “I’m fine.”
That moment changed him.
He swore to cherish me forever, shield me from harm, keep me safe
He believed I was his soulmate, his missing piece, his forever.
Now, watching Amber’s mask slip away, he suddenly remembered all my breakdowns these past months.
My tears. My begging.
That question I kept asking:
“Jason, do you still love me at all?”
The realization crushed him.
So this is what betrayal feels like.
The pain hit every nerve ending at once, flooding his system until his legs gave out.
“Is Jason having a stroke or something?”
“Why’s he sitting on the floor?”
“Has he lost it?”
Everyone thought he was heartbroken over precious Amber’s betrayal.
They were wrong.
Staring at Amber’s lies laid bare, he knew instantly this was my revenge.
He’d wandered down the wrong path, and by the time he thought to turn back–I was already gone.
He collapsed, throwing everything aside, and tore out of the ballroom.
