Chapter 11
Ethan stumbled back. “No… Impossible…”
“Vivian, how could you let another man’s child call you ‘mommy‘?”
I almost laughed.
“Ethan, when you were holding another woman’s child and demanded me to be his mother, you didn’t see a problem with that, did you?”
He was speechless.
“Or does the great Vivian Voss only get to be a mother to your bloodline?”
His gaze fell to our intertwined hands, and he suddenly lunged forward. “Vivian! I can explain it! If you don’t want that child, we can—”
He stopped. his eyes suddenly darting to my belly.
“Our baby,” his voice trembling. “What happened? Weren’t you… weren’t you pregnant?”
I looked at him “A little late for concern, don’t you think, Mr. Voss?”
Those hospital sheet weren’t red enough?”
Horror dawned on his face.
That day…” he choked, “you were bleeding… because…”
“Miscarriage,” I said flatly.
Ethan flinched as if I’d stabbed him. He swayed on his feet, nearly collapsing.
He just kept shaking his head. “I… I thought it might be… but the doctor said you could never…”
“That’s right. The doctor said my chances were practically zero,“I said with a light laugh. “So that baby… was a miracle.”
Ethan’s breathing grew ragged. He grabbed at his hair. “Why didn’t you tell me?!”
“Tell you?” A tremor entered my voice. “And what would you have done? Would you have left your precious baby in the ICU for ours?”
His face said it all. He remembered his choice.
He remembered signing the divorce papers without a second thought and running back to his precious son and the woman he loved.
“By the way,” I added, “do you know why I miscarried?”
He looked up.
“The stress of having my head shaved wasn’t quite enough to do it…”
“It was the musk ketone I’d been inhaling for months. From that ‘calming incense‘ Skylar gave you for your study.”
“That was probably the only child you will ever have.”
He probably remembered all those years of hard drinking and partying had taken their toll.
His face turned ashen.

Chapter 11
“These months…” He said, his voice full of anguish. “I searched everywhere! Why didn’t you… tell me? Let me make it right!”
Liam stepped forward. “Playing the hero now? Where were you when Vivian was bleeding out? Weren’t you busy with your other woman and her
kid?”
“Do you have any idea she almost died?”
“If I had another chance, I would…”
“You don’t. You didn’t cherish Vivian. So someone else will.”
“By the way, a little tip for you: the doctor who delivered your son and handled his surgery, he was sleeping with Skylar.”
Ethan froze.
He remembered the doctor eagerly handing him the DNA report.
He remembered Skylar always insisting on going to that specific private hospital. Even the “fortune teller” was recommended by that same doctor.
“No…that’s impossible!”
He mumbled, shaking his head, but more and more suspicious details were flooding his mind.
The child looked nothing like him.
Skylar always had an excuse for why he couldn’t take the boy for a check himself…
“Ethan!” Skylar shrieked. “Don’t listen to her lies-”
He grabbed her wrist.
“Last week. Why did you insist on taking him to that doctor for his shots?”
Skylar paled. “Be–because he’s a pediatric specialist…”
“Did it really take forty minutes for one shot?”
Skylar was trembling, and the baby in her arms wailed.
Liam handed him a card. “Top DNA lab. 24–hour results. Mention me for a discount.”

Ethan shoved Skylar away. He looked at the girl he once thought was young and naive, and saw a complete stranger.
“Vivian…” he pleaded. “When I prove it, then we…”
“There is no ‘we‘ anymore,” I cut him off calmly. “It was over the day you brought her to my birthday party. Or maybe before.”
As I turned away, I heard a heavy thud behind me, followed by Skylar’s screams.
I didn’t look back. But I knew,
This time, Ethan finally tasted the same pain.
