Chapter69
Britney couldn’t help but shiver.
“Sorry, this was an internal company matter. We would handle
it ourselves. Sorry to trouble you.” Rodrick finally spoke up.
It was something she expected, but when she actually heard
him say it, Britney’s heart still tightened a bit.
The police also thought it could be a big deal or not, and since we
could handle it ourselves, that was for the best.
So I called off the alert right away.
As soon as the cops left, Rodrick looked calm, but there was a
sharp, icy look in his eyes.
He asked Britney, “Are you satisfied?”
Britney tugged at her lips and spoke rather bluntly, “Is Mr.
Livingston blaming me?”
“You knew how much calling the police would affect the
company, so why did you have to call them?”
The man looked down at her, his eyes cold and menacing.
Chapter69
Britney didn’t think she did anything wrong, so she faced
Rodrick head–on and spoke firmly.
“Because I didn’t want people to blame me for nothing! Because I
wanted to keep my name clean!”
“Or did Mr. Livingston think that I, Britney, should be the one to
take the blame?”
“But why though?”
She didn’t owe anyone!
I didn’t owe Rodrick anything!
So why did she have to put up with it? Why did she have to
back down?
At that moment, Britney was like a hedgehog covered in spikes,
putting up her guard against everyone, including Rodrick.
This made Rodrick feel really strange.
It was like I never knew her.
In my memory, she was always the type who just went along
with things, never fought or competed, and was sensible and
considerate.
Chapter69
She cared more about Royarch Capital’s reputation than about
herself!
It was the first time Katheryn saw Britney and Rodrick go at
each other like that, and she was so scared she didn’t even dare
to breathe.
The atmosphere froze for a moment, then Bianca spoke up at
the right time, “Forget it, Rod, maybe we really did wrong
Britney, that’s why she’s so mad.“”
“She was your secretary for so many years after all, and you
didn’t do a technical appraisal because you trusted her. The
truth doesn’t really matter anymore, so let’s just let this go.”
Britney looked at her, and for the first time saw how ugly
people could be.
What a move, retreating to advance.
It seemed like he was helping her out, but he kept giving away
other messages.
Rodrick went down the steps following what she said, “This is
the end of it, nobody is allowed to bring it up again.”
I didn’t say a single word for Britney the whole time.
Chapter69
That was his attitude!
Britney just felt like something inside her was being torn apart,
and it hurt all over her insides.
She lost the desire to seek the truth.
Anyway, explaining was useless. Rodrick had already judged
her in his heart, so there was no need for her to say more.
There was even a moment when she wished she really had
done it, so Rodrick could have something on her and fire her.
This way, it was kind of a relief too, wasn’t it?
Bianca held her dress sadly, “The party’s tomorrow. What
should I do if my dress is ruined?”
Rodrick looked up and glanced around the closet, then his eyes.
stopped on a white satin dress, “Try this one.”
What he talked about was exactly the dress Britney had
custom–made for herself.
It was the one that was the secret couple style with him.
