Ralph had just left my house.
I immediately received a message from him.
[Diana, I’ve sealed the contract and given it to your father. Review it before signing. My assistant will collect it afterward.]
I meticulously examined every clause of the contract.
Beyond our negotiations last night, one line stood out clearly at the end-
All profits from our marriage alliance would be split 40-60, with him taking 40% and me 60%.
Moreover, I’d receive a substantial settlement after our divorce.
Combined, this was no small fortune–enough to secure my future.
I counted the zeros at the end.
Then I carefully reread the contract.
My resistance to the arranged marriage now twisted into unease over holding such significant assets.
Fidgeting with my phone, I asked:
“By the way, Ralph, the contract doesn’t mention anything about you and your partner.”
“Did you forget?”
I genuinely wanted to know.
But Ralph’s reply bristled with impatience.
“Stop probing, Diana.”
“I understand women become vulnerable in marriage. Rest assured, I won’t publicly humiliate you during our union.”
I fell silent.
Though separated by screens,
I could almost see Ralph frowning at his phone right now.
With a sarcastic mouth, he muttered, “That damn woman dares to meddle in my affairs.”
Then adjusted his tone to reply to me..
“Besides, I’d never let her be the other woman, not even just in name.
At this point, Ralph paused.
Probably because he’d mentioned the person he loved.
His tone unconsciously softened significantly.
“I’ll wait until our marriage completely ends before seriously pursuing her, confessing my feelings, and being with her.”
“Of course, that’s only if she doesn’t dislike me and has no one else in her heart.”
Who would’ve guessed.
This Dominant CEO is actually quite devoted.
After speaking, Ralph pondered briefly before adding.
“Oh, send me your ID number.”
I instantly grew wary: “Why?”
Ralph:
“The day after we get our marriage license, I’m going abroad for business
to the exact city where your first love lives. Don’t you want to see him?”
I’ve already bought your ticket. I’ll cover for you as per the contract, and tell the family we’re going on a honeymoon.
I was a bit hesitant.
My finger hovered over the screen, hesitating to tap.
Ralph waited impatiently for my reply.
So he patiently persuaded me with gentle guidance.
Diana, this is a once–in–a–lifetime opportunity.
Next time won’t be so coincidental. You really need to think it through.
If you miss this chance, who knows when you’ll see him again.
I was still hesitating.
After all, after we broke up back then.
